Damnation Audio Fan/Appreciation Thread

If you have a black Dirtfixer you don't need a patch cable to use the pedal as a preamp. The loop send and return jacks are normalled together already. The holographic first run Dirtfixers do need a cable.

Thanks.
I was wondering if the blended signal just ends up being heard as something in between the dry and eq’d signal, or if you end up hearing both.

The loop signal functioning as a preamp will allow you to create some tone shaping and the parallel clean has a fixed low end contour you can blend in. Its all just shaping the tone of the instrument sound but with a single source for both signals its not going to sound like there are two different things happening.

Even when using Dirtfixer with a pedal in the loop it doesn't sound like there is clean and also dirt unless you work to make it sound like they are separate things. When we set one up in our rigs the contoured clean channel is a supporting actor that fills out the low end and low midrange in a way that sounds seamless with the distortion but doesn't assert itself as a clean sound on top of distortion. These products exist because we dislike everything on the market that does that raw trebly full range clean through to the output sound.

I don't think you'll regret it. The first second I turned it on with everything around noon, it just sounded "right." The tone got a little dark under noon with the rig and bass I was playing, but every other setting was just great. It sounded fuller and had more bass information when switched between it and the ODs I had at the practice space. I need to dig in more, but it's a killer right out of the box and I'm glad I bit the bullet on it.
This nails it. And I'm glad I bit the bullet too.
You are going to like it DP. I have about an hour with it so far. Mostly doing A/B/C eith the other iterations. Its clearly MBD lineage.

Yes, the MBD lineage is very obvious.
And you're quite right, I like it.
I really like it.

I think the DARBD might be my favorite iteration of the MBD circuit.
It's definitely mine. I've owned them all and it is the best in my experience. It has the soul of the other MBD iterations but is so simple and dialed in that it doesn't need the blend, boost, or other niceties. It's just plug and play perfect.

Yeah. Again this is what I thought. But how can the mbd get better by taking stuff away from the original? Not sure this is even possible.

At low gain the retro seems to be the most… I dunno, transparent? Natural maybe. Could be the best low gain Ive ever heard. I hated the blueberry though so I might be weird.

Still evaluating the higher gain side. This is where I jam most of the time.

I'm ready to post my conclusion re: MBD-1 v RMBD v MBD.

The MBD-1 is still king in my world. Just about the best low gain ever but I don't really do that. High gain is my primary use and it's the best. I have mine dialed up a bit on the internal trim. It's more raspy than the others which is the quality I like. It's not necessarily a tone setting thing though. Tough to explain.

The Retro is the best low gain ever. Yeah. I said it. Higher gain is different from the others. More smooth ish? It's sufficient for my high output basses like the sledgehammer SB-1. Not quite enough for my low output P bass. It's an incredible pedal and lives up to the description. Inferior to the MBD in every way except for probably electrons. Because they don't make em like they did back in the day. Unless you build with golden era parts of course. Glad I got this one.

The MBD is obviously the most versatile. It does all the things the others do and could easily be considered the best. If it was the only one I had, I would be good with that.

You aren't alone. I also could never make the Blueberry (or its many iterations) work for me.
