Damnation Audio Fan/Appreciation Thread

I’m pretty sure @bullitproof was referring to the limited release BIG pedal, not the larger of the MBD series.

They are definitely not the same.

Thanks I was under the impression it was a whole different thing like a Bluebeard clone with only 3 knobs and based on the promo YouTube video.

Big is not a bluebeard clone. Evan used a bluebeard for many years but we started from scratch when we designed Big. We don't even have a bluebeard to reference so we just made muff and boost circuits that we really liked based on what we heard on the new Pet Symmetry record.

I want to see Damnation make a classic clangy/clanky pedal(not that the MBD doesn't sound great on its' own). I follow this thread because I love analog overdrive, and a lot of the effects world has gone digital. (although I'm fine with delay/modulation....or tonex on guitar, hehehe)

Thats kinda what Bass Power Distorter is

Yes you’re in all the threads I stalk, LMAO. The quest for the perfect overdrive will go forever for me. I discovered (or I rediscovered since I had borrowed one before and didn’t know what i was doing) the Traynor TS50b when I scored one cheap from GC. Then I lucked up into one of Jason’s 1978 preamps. Then I switched again to just GK. THEN that band broke up and all those tones didn’t work anymore for my new project. What I have now stacking a MBD2 into a Sansamp into a legacy GK800 seems to be doing the trick……. For now, lol. I recently did a trade for a Tremond rat clone but it didn’t dethrone anything from my board. Scored a tech 21 DUG thinking it might simplify my board and the MBD/BDDI still sounded a bit better. Dug used to use traynors back in the day as well. Pretty sure he used the YBA though.

The Tremond is an excellent Rat pedal, and I don't see it getting anywhere near the love it deserves. It's a hefty tone, and yet aggressive. Isn't the Rusty Box based off of a Traynor? I know nothing about Traynors or Rusty Boxes, but I thought I've read about it being clanky?

In regards to clank, I can get some bit of clank from my MBD-2, but I'm unfamiliar with Jesus Lizard/Shellac to know if that's the right kind. Most people who want clank think of Darkglass or similar. I currently prefer my MBD-2 tones for what I used to use DG for as my #1 clank tone. I also have found I prefer the Guptech Bassbone to a B3K. (I never got along with ANY of the bigger DG pedals, though I tried. Too much high end fizz for me.) I'd probably wait for the following quote to happen, though - everything Damnation makes is excellent stuff (as I'm sure you know)!

Theres something coming with clank if you want it.
This has me intrigued! Any sort of tonal hints/goals you were aiming for in this build?
