Hi guys!

Currently on the fence about pulling the trigger or not on a MBD. Do any of you have some advice on how good the pedal works on a specific overdrive/warmthump task : I want to use it mainly as OD/Mild drive/slight dirty boost.

I've tried many other pedals so far, almost all the usual-Talkbass-suspects, with 70% of the time disappointment despite the hype on internet (Broughton Azure, Fairfield Barber, Darkglass VMT, Southampton Fifth Gear, OCD...). My actual "pretty good but..." OD pedal on my pedalboard is a Pork Loin (not the most expensive but works very fine with me).

As far as I can tell from the internet, the pedal sounds promising but one could never tell without trying it live. I would have already take my chance if the international shipping from Baltimore US to Paris FR was not so high... (damn you UPS!)

Any help or feedback is welcome! :thumbsup:

It’s funny you say that. My main OD was the pork loin (JohnK mod) before I got the MBD. I felt like the MBD was like my modded pork loin but way more fuller, more punchy and more natural sounding. Still keeps the clank too which is great. I didn’t see the pork loin being dethroned. Then I tired the MBD. The pork loin came off quick. Now I can’t see the MBD ever getting dethroned. Like, ever. And I’ve tired a lot of OD’s

It literally has the most bottom end in the dirt realm of any pedal (outside of muffs). It really doesn't have THAT much gain either, if you are using a passive bass you should have no issues achieving that sound.

I will let these guys tell you their thoughts because I'll just say its good enough. What you could help me with is talk to your local shop about stocking my pedals. I'd surely love an EU supplier.

I do have customers in France but customs is always a crap shoot even with the expensive shipping.

I'll also add @CassiusRegular , @Maxfenderbass is so on the money. I've never played another pedal that had so much rich and full low end without being too much. It just fills space with low end harmonic goodness.

I thought it was expensive too when I first saw the price. But there are some pedals where you realize after you've played it that the price tag was nothing for what you got. Not saying the MBD is priced too high at all mind you. But I know it can scare some off. Same with the Bloop. But both these pedals completely changed my tone game for the better when I didn't even think it needed help! I can't imagine not using them ever again. Like, if I ever was just going to use an OD, I would happily run the MBD1, a Bloop and a pre, either the B7KU or rusty box, and I'd be perfectly happy.

There is two shop specialized in boutique effects here in Paris. I have no idea how they work with contractors but have very fine taste (one of them is already working with your colleagues from Dunable for instance).

As I've told @gregmon79 many times via PM, this is exactly how I use my MBD1. I use it as a warmer/dirty boost for my Mesa Subway D800+. The combo of the two really convinces me that I have a tube amp behind me, when I really don't. I ran a Pork Loin for a bit as well and enjoyed it (till it started acting weird and being really noisy), but the MBD1 stomps all over everything. I'd love to snag a Blooper to use with some of my other overdrive pedals.

The MBD1 is the fullest sounding pedal I've ever used. And I can dial in the right amount of clank/cut with the tone knob (I know it's way more complex than that though).

I concur with all the posts responding to this... the MBD-1 covers so much territory well, including low gain applications. I use the MBD as a low gain tone shaper all the time. It just does it all!
