Danelectro Owners Club

Thanks for the Jack Bruce pic. Very cool.

It sounds like some of you have had success trying different washers as strap locks. I already have the Fender washer strap locks. I just haven't managed to fit them onto my Longhorn along with the strap I really like. It has a thick end piece that uses up the space on the strap button.

Am I right in thinking installing a conventional strap lock wouldn't work on a Longhorn, due to the hollow plastic body?

Thanks, Joel
I have straplocks installed on My Longhorn. Top horn actually .

To keep from cutting the top of your Long Horn. Years ago, the first Long Horn I saw, was played by Jesse Colin Young in the Youngbloods. I played his one time and he had installed De Armond surface mount pickups. You could install those with two sided tape or silicone over the original holes, without disturbing the finish or the body. That is the bass used originally to record "Get Together" by the Youngbloods back in about '66 or so.
Thanks for the pickup info. :)

Here’s the song

I’m the second owner so I’m not sure if the tape was removed or if Danelectro had a model or years in which they did not use tape.
That's the series from circa 2004/5 that tried to update afew things, including taking off the tape.
While I personally prefer the look of tape, those were REALLY nice instruments, and the mask Korean models for nearly a decade.
If you like tape you can get it, there are people here who've found it online.

I had to replace the tape on my longhorn. There was a guy on eBay or Reverb who was selling what he said was NOS tape, but it must have been recent stuff. It was thicker and more textured than what came on it originally. It seemed similar to the striping laid down on tennis courts. On the downside, if you didn't install it with exactly the right contouring and at the right temperature, it would pull away from the body around the horns - and that's exactly what happened.

I would imagine that what you're talking about is for the original vintage Danelectros; they used a thicker (almost cloth or upholstery) type of side tape that was inset into the sides of the body.

Thanks for the info. I did not know it was from the 2004-2005 time period. I prefer it how it is, but at least I know if I change my mind there's tape out there.

Thanks @portaflexer - you guys seem like passionate fans around here. With my neck/shoulder issues I’m certain this bass will make it to many gigs, starting tomorrow night. :bassist:

Very nice! If I didn't have the blueburst, I'd get one of those.
Thanks champ. The early Korean models seldom come up for sale in Australia - when they do they’re asking too much. Never seen this colour bass for sale before, pretty rare here, and a good price.

Daddy-O yellow will look great under stage lights and ‘pop’ against black clothes, curtains, etc. Blueburst was on my list too, along with red.
