I built the seafoam one with a Longhorn neck, but I had to modify the neck pocket. I might be able to avoid cutting the pocket if I can find a 21-fret Danelectro bass neck (or with only minimal cutting).

Is anyone here hoarding a Danelectro bass neck that they could be persuaded to part with?

The only one likely to be drop-in will be the '63 (amp-in-case style reissue) - it was a short-scale guitar which they just dropped in a different neck (for both the short scale and long-scale) basses.

Yeah, I've been thinking that might be the case.

I know someone with a short-scale 63 bass. I might ask him to measure his neck. I guess I'd have a hard time finding a 63 neck, though. All Dano necks are getting harder to find.

Does anyone here have a short-scale 63 bass they could measure for me?

Hmm...
I guess:
1) Nut to bridge-side edge (to double-check scale length) (most likely = 14-7/8)
2) Nut to end of fretboard
3) fretboard width at 18th fret (It's 2-3/16 on my Longhorn neck)
4) fretboard width at highest fret (not sure how many frets that neck has) (2-1/4 at the 21st fret on the longhorn neck)
5) [If you can,] Length of the flat bottom of the neck butt... I suppose there's a name for it, but I don't know it. I mean the flat bottom of the neck that lies flat on the bottom of the neck pocket. Don't take your neck off, or anything. Close enough is good enough. I suppose it'll be about 4 to 4-1/2".

With a Longhorn neck, the E side of the makes "landfall" between the 16th & the 17th frets; on the G side, between the 17th & 18th. It should be the same with a 63 neck, if I want the bridge to be in the same (guitar) position, if the scale length is the same on my longhorn neck and your 63 neck. The flat bottom of the butt is about 4-3/4"

Sadly, after years on the roster, (club member #3), it's time to relinquish my membership... Gave away my beloved Limo Black Longhorn a few weeks ago to a new bass player... After well over a hundred gigs, it hasn't been out much in the last 4 years. Such a fine bass deserves to be played... Goodbye old friend!!

I can’t think of a better reason to part with your bass than to support a new player who is in need of an instrument. Kudos to you. :thumbsup:

Yeah I was glad to see that as well! First thing I’m doing after getting this bass (and I decide to keep it) will be sanding the finish off the back of the neck.

I feel you on that, but the more I look at this current design the more I like it. Seems more balanced visually.

I bought a replacement wood bridge saddle to test it out both way and see if there is a tonal difference.


P.S. I’m kind of excited about this little bass after owning a 90s DC long scale way back in 2004.
