Danelectro Owners Club

By the way, heads up, if anyone needs one (and you do), there's Danelectro 56 on the 'bay now sitting at a mere $114.50, with 12 hours left. I have one already, or I'd grab it myself. It's a great one. Search for DANELECTRO U-2 BASS REISSUE.
Short scale? Need long. Now, a '63 would get my attention. :)

Still, those snipers on the Feebay have wrecked too many deals for me. Nevermore!

I dig the artwork. Not my cuppa' tea, but stilll well executed. I like the headstock art more than on the body (I just think the pickguard is throwing me off).

Rock it!

"Celina," my '59 DC feels like she needs a pinup girl sticker on it, and I'm having a hard time finding one. I found a couple that have made the "maybe" list, but nothing solid. Any ideas?

Please join me in welcoming #78 to the club. BTW, if I missed anyone else, PLEASE PM ME FOR A NUMBER.

I too prefer the rosewood bridge.. I tried the adjustable, even gave it a fair chance over the course of about a month or so, then changed it back. It just took "it" from the instrument's tone. It took me a while to sweetspot it, but now that it's in the right spot, there's no need to move it. Plus I took measurements of how it's sitting right now if I have to change strings.

I love how stable this bass is. It rarely goes out of tune and holds intonation extremely well.

The rosewood saddle bridge is part of the charm of Danos, the bass models can be adjusted to intonate properly and the guitar (& bass VI) versions can be made to intonate with some filing. While I don't think too highly of the import adjustable bridges, Jerry Jones made some really nice high quality bridges with steel (brass?) adjustable saddles for basses guitars & bass VI's.

I purchased all of Jerry's remaining bridge inventory at auction when he decided to retire, in addition to the completed bridges, included was a large quantity of brass bridge plates for various models; metal adjustable saddles, wooden saddles (along with a huge inventory of rosewood saddles) & even some cool prototype models with wooden adjustable saddles. Future plans are to have brass saddles made for the adjustable bridge plates.

It is important to note that a lot of Jerry's later instruments used Gotoh hardtail bass & guitar bridges. I could be wrong but my theory is that the custom bridges he produced (in house) proved not to be cost effective compared to the Gotoh bridges (again, just a total guess...). Fortunately for me, at the price I purchased them for that won't be a problem. ;)

While I am a fan of wooden saddles and I believe that the they contribute (slightly?) to the tone of these instruments, I am looking forward to trying out the adjustable bridges with brass saddles

In case anyone's interested, I posted on the Hardware, Setup & Repair forum about replacing a "new"-style adjustable bridge with an "old"-style rosewood saddle bridge (which I prefer). http://www.talkbass.com/threads/dan...ld-style-bridge-with-rosewood-saddle.1118041/

Interesting. I didn't realize that these (import adjustable saddle bridges) don't interchange with the wooden saddle ones. I could of sworn that that the DC-3 guitar that I swapped over to a bass (w/wooden saddle) originally had an adjustable saddle guitar bridge... It's been awhile since I did it, so once again... I could be wrong.

That is weird, but I think we're both correct. Based on photos, it looks like the metal-saddle guitar bridges are the same size as the old rosewood saddle bass bridges; but the newer bass bridges are larger. So you might well be able to drop-in an old bass bridge on a guitar body.

I definitely think that the break angle is not so good with the newer bridges -- that led to some rattling and fuzziness to the sound, particularly on the G. The break angle is really better on the older bridges - there's less distance from the string hole to the top of the saddle.

Here is my new/used Hodad with 1959 shorthorn. I have had 4 or 5 longhorns and need to get another one. I also had a silvertone 1442 that i bought for a $100 bucks a few years ago and stupidly sold. I do feel there is a difference between the remakes and Vintage ones in terms of quality

Picked this up a couple of days ago. First thing I did was remove the binding tape that was peeling. Now I need some zippo fluid to clean off all the gunk. The bass was abandoned to a teenager's closet, the strings were rusted, and have left marks on the fretboard. Otherwise the bass is in awesome shape + for $100 who could complain?

It's a 90s reissue - SHORT SCALE
this is how it looked when I brought it home

This is the only upgrade planned (for now): Yes... those are googly
