Danelectro Owners Club

The prices on Danelectros are starting to get insane, just over the last few months. I would never have thought of dishing out 400+ for a used DC, and now that seems to be considered a "good deal". Yeah, if they had any brains, whover owns Danelectro would do another1-2 year limited run on all of the basses, right now they only are in love with their guitars and pedals.

Actually - they are producing Longhorns and have been pretty consistently for the last several years - they just didn't have them on the website (one of their problems is they don't consistently display what they have) but they have recently updated and have both the longhorn and the "dolphin head" (aka U2 bass) on the site now - along with a LOT of guitars.
Having said all that - yeah they focus on guitars - a FAR larger market, especially at the beginner end as many bass players are reformed guitar players and start with more expensive (that is non-"beginner") basses, of which Danelectros are often perceived to be by those not in the know.
But again, I agree, they need to re-issue the DC.
EDIT - but ain't been the last few months - I been watching these for years now and DCs and MIK longhorns have gone for new and more than new almost since they were discontinued.

Found another DC, took a LOT of time and patience, but I made an offer and got this. There's still a silver DC on evil-bay that's too pricey for my taste. I wanted 2 since I hope to string 1 with flats and 1 with rounds. What are fave strings for any of you DC players? Enquiring minds want to know. Already got a few ideas earlier on this thread. Come on Danelectro, make more basses!! We WILL buy them!

Two now? :jawdrop:I seriously HATE you.;)
Nice score. That's EXACTLY the one I want in a DC - the silver sparkle traditional (plastic buttons on the tuners, wood bridge).
You lucky bastard, you lucky, lucky bastard.
(5 points if you know what that's from - hint they're the "Danelectro" of comedy, screwy and low-budget but super awesome if you get them :wacky:).
PS: Are those knobs painted? I can't imagine someone is producing alternate colour replacement knobs for Danos - cool either way, just curious.

I'll look into "the bright side of life" regarding the story behind the knobs....this one will stay home with me, the other DC I plan on making my gig bass. Can't wait to try these out on some nice old analog 16-track tape!
**Follow-up...the knobs were indeed painted and it is required I must wear a red strap to match, fortunately I have a nice red strap so I won't foul up the vibe.

5 points for you. (of course these points are TB air miles so five points won't get you as far as your keyboard).
Nice. It looks like they did a good job - not half-ass-y so it looks unique and cool, not home-made and dorky.

There's been a nice silver one on evel-bay for about a month, they want too much right now, but it's been sitting there for a month, may be ripe for a low-ball offer in a week or so?? It's already been re-listed once for 30 days.

I know, I've been eyeing it for some time now.. The worst part is, my wife would actually let me buy it, but a new safer/reliable family vehicle (read: SUV, ala Nissan Xterra) is much higher on my priority list.

We've been getting slammed hard with snow, -30*C, with strong winds the last few weeks. Last winter kicked my little Mazda's ass, and this year was no better. Time for an upgrade. Plus, I'm getting around $4k back from the taxman, so now's the perfect time.

Gotta put my family first, THEN another new bass will come!

Hope when you're ready there will be one for sale here on TB, that would be outstanding!

There's a nice looking Danoblaster on the bay of evil, bidding is low so far (ends in a couple days)....I'm "officially" out of the buying game for awhile (maybe) but I still look almost every day and if I DO see something really cheap, I'll pop on it. There is no such thing as too many basses, guitars, amps, speakers, and on and on.....when it gets to the point where you need a bigger pad then maybe it's too much.

It's true.. Never enough. My wife even said I need to buy a new acoustic guitar, a good one at that. She apparently misses hearing the music I write.

Life is great.

Hilarious eBay Dano of the week: item #161615718486
"Danelectro 60s bass guitar w/ built-in distortion", which is of course a Rumor bass.

I wrote this to the seller. I can't see see a "report this item" button anymore.
---------------

This is not a sixties Danelectro. The seller is either misinformed, or deceitful.

It's from the late '90s or early '00s. It's a Danelectro Danoblaster/Rumour bass. There are at least two others on eBay right now. This model typically ends up going for $125 to $175 these days. They aren't bad instruments. They're a great deal at under $200, but they are certainly not worth $1300.

I saw that and was tempted to either report it or contact seller, but it's way too f*ck#n funny AS IS! reporting an item on E-Bay is just not worth the hoops you have to jump through, so maybe we'll let our Joker with the "0" feedback enjoy his or her delusion.I didn't even bother to contact the seller, with my luck they would put a 100-year curse on me. IF someone pays 1300 bucks, maybe we can find out who and sell them a beachfront house in Arizona?
