Fella's selling a set of La Bella Fender VI flats dirt cheap. I fancy putting flats on my Wildthing. The La Bellas measure 35" from ballend to silk but the Wildthing only has 32" from back of bridge to tuner.

What's the general feeling folks ? Last set of flats started to unwind up at the tuners when I removed them so want to avoid the same happening.

Thanks in advance KB

Whats a fair asking price for a korean reissue u2....black with pristine pickguard and tape is excellent?
Up here in Canada the usual price for a clean one private sale is in the range of $400 (with like $100 leeway depending on area).
Down your way that would be about $325... but the US market is quite different, and even region to region there's variability.
Having said that - anything above $450 US would be a LOT (that's about what you can get the new MIKs (which are actually REALLY nice) for) and anything under $250 would be an objectively good deal regardless of what they at "worth", cause you won't find a better, nicer guitar for that price, especially not one that isn't yet another strat or super strat.
My personal threshold is about $350 for U2s and Longhorns - but I'm super-cheap and that's part of what drew me to Danos in the first place, so why pay a lot for something that you like because it's cheap.

I think it might be wise to pass. If you're wanting to put them on a Dano baritone guitar; yeah, the scale is pretty much the same. But, because of the tremolo on the Fender Bass VI - and the distance back to it - they are a pretty unique animal, and have to have their own special strings. Which, sad to say, makes them just a little too long for your Dano. Unless the strings are so "dirt cheap" that you won't miss the money if they don't work...;)

Wait....

I'm confused now.:eyebrow:

I'm pretty sure the :D is a clue that he's joking. But, you actually don't have a stash of "Just in case" strings? I do; strings that I normally wouldn't use. But, someone gave them to me, so I keep them "just in case". This can be dangerous, though; over the years, I've somehow managed to acquire strings for instruments I don't own, and I've got a pile of "Where the Hell did these come from?!?" bass and guitar strings, too. I can't remember buying them (and I doubt I would buy some of them), and I don't remember anyone giving them to me, either. Sometimes I think they all get in a pile at night, and breed....

Hello This looks like the place to get some answers I am attempting to restore/build several Danos 1 is a 3412 ss bass believe its a 61 by the way the neck is mounted to the body. I have located most parts except for the pickup. I have a original 64 3412 and I get 4.7k on that pickup any original pickups I find for sale are 3.7k or 3.9k did Dano make a different pickup for basses. Sorry I do not play bass just like restoring them. The other 2 I am working on are not going to be original standards a 59Dc Korea made and a Korea made HODAD type with 2 double humbuckers. I might be looking to you guys and gals for more info Dano info is not to easy to acquire

The original Danelectro's all used the same pickup (basses, guitars,etc...). that's pretty hot for a Dano (I bet it sounds good). It could be a "freak" (accidentally overwound), I doubt they were that careful counting windings.

Then again, Nat Daniels was an engineer and a very intelligent Dude, also most original lipsticks keep fairly close tolerances to just under 4k.

That's interesting about the Hodad, Rik - I thought they all had 3 pickups.

I've still yet to take my Wild Thing out for a stage gig, but have done some rehearsals on it, and it punches.

Funny thing: I put some tapewound strings on it in an attempt to mellow its punch a bit, which was a resounding success. However, there was suddenly no way to ground it with my fingers, so it was buzzing loudly and nonstop any place with dirty power. So, I did some googling, made a cardboard frame for a Faraday cage, and put copper tape on the cage + pickup wires...and now that thing doesn't even whisper until I a) PLAY IT or b) turn one of the pickups down more than a bit relative to the other, classic hum.

The band I was playing in split up, and I'm thinking of marketing myself for local gigs with a lil shoot of me on the Wild Thing. It's just so much fun.

Nope, two generations of Hodad bass, 1st - 3 pickups, long scale, 2nd - 2 pickups, short scale. During both generations the guitars were double pickups (technically not humbuckers, wired in series, but not RW/RP).
I think he means he's converting a hodad guitar to a bass by swapping necks - something I long intended to do until my tendinitis meant I now need the short reach, now I'm going to have to buy some lip-buckers and cut up one of my longhorns.
