Danelectro Owners Club

If you care, 1999 or 2000 for this original DCs.
Don't be surprised, Danelectros were brought back because they were stone cold classics, and this model was an attempt at making it even more "mainstream" with a long scale and semi-solid construction.
Do you by any chance play it in some Mexican setting (gringo basso) like mariachi or tejano? That would be sweet and the Dano thump would be perfect for it.
Gringos are forbidden to play such music. I can only play in the local Flock of Seagulls cover band according to local law. It's not such a great deal.

Fair enough, as a blond haired kid from Toronto, I know I'd look rather out of place, but I would LOVE to play in a mariachi band... Though I would play a guitarrone for authenticity - but I stand by my comment that a Dano with flats would work perfectly for it.
Maybe I can start a Metalachi cover band (if you're unfamiliar, they're exactly what you think).

If you like rounds, I'm not sure what to recommend (except the dano strings) but labella makes a popular flatwound set labelled as their danelectro set, virtually any sdtore will have to special border them for you.

I like the GHS Pressurewound strings on my Longhorn. They have the bite of rounds but not as much top-end zing, which is already pretty prominent in Danelectro basses. I used to use Chromes, but these fit the stock (non-Pro) bridge and tuners better for me.

howdy, Dano-knower-about-ers! Can you help me ID my 59DC? Red finish and 2 stacked knobs make me think late '90s Korean manufacture, non-Pro version. Can anyone confirm that?

thanks in advance!

thanks six!
PS. Whatever you do, don't part with that bass whatever you do. They are highly sought after great basses. Danelectro only last year gave in to public demand and reissued those after 17 years, and they are notorious for cancelling things and not bringing them back for a while; it took them the better part of a decade to bring back the the longhorn, essentially the fountainhead of Dano desirability.

Unless you happen to be in Oshawa and find it dragging you down, then, I'll help you out and take it off your hands.

So this means no one can answer my question re the strings (who made them, what they were).
Lots of good suggestions offered to TomB but I don't want alternatives I now know what I want THESE!
Which is just coincidence, I didn't expect them to be good strings, just wanted the box.

Have you contacted Danelectro / Evets Corp? Maybe they have that information at corporate - or even some NOS string sets.

i know labella has made dano specific sets for decades especially because of the guitar tuner size. i ordered a bunch a few years ago. you can try labella directly or through imperial music in newburgh NY. they actually got me on the line with a labella tech.

looks like they moved to a nicer town.

Thanks,
I'm aware of the labellas, but I can't imagine that they're it... These were $20 strings... That's like one thin labella string.
Not that the labelled aren't great, again, I've tried the hofner set, which are very similar, but I actually really like these AND they're cheap, that's a combo that's hard to beat.

You think your quest is hard. Try finding out what strings were loaded on the original Danos and try to snag a set of those.
I think they were Black Diamonds. Roundwounds.
