can you help me out ? my dan has 3 screws holding the neck on some have 4,is one of the screws an adjustment or just to hold neck better?

If this is what you are referring to, the 4th hole is a neck tilt adjustment (the other hole in this pic is a previous strap button hole)...

Your the fella with the 68? They had 3 bolts cause they had a neck tyilt adjustment, just like Fender later adopted.
The reissues have 4.
The four bolt ones don't, mostly because people think 4 is inherently better than 3. But there is little evidence that its true, and given those old Danos and slightly newer fenders are between 40 and 60 years old with few problems, it seems like 3 is plenty.
Or, if you mean the fourth is the different one, then that's the adjuster as moonshine said while I was typing.

forgot to ask,the longhorn I described is that a Korean reissue or china?
Sounds like a first run Korean.
They were shiny and came in the greatest variety of colours (and off the top of my head, none of the others did the surf green or green burst).
They were 98 and 99.
The Chinese were all satin finished as far as I can tell.
Clincher? Are the stack knobs round or pointed?
Round, MIK.

heres my bass,1963 as far as I can tell, still plays and sounds great.easier to play than the longhorn.seems like I have to reach further playin around the 5th fret,7th fret with the longhorn, but it to plays pretty good.
Nice old beast.
Yes, the old REAL short horns leke yours are the only (30" scale) basses with an even shorter reach than a longhorn. Though I've never quite heard it framed as the longhorn being "harder" to play so much as the shorthorn being "even easier" because the bridge is so far back, bringing the low notes closer to your midline.

exactly what I was trying to say,the reach is shorter easier for me to play.strings can be switched to the longhorn.had a set of ghs, after 2 months you could see the wear on the strings, switched back to old set d addario 170 s.they are about a year old show no wear, played sat nite sounded great.

Wasn't trying to be argumentative, just commenting on the fact that I was surprised to see it expressed that way. Not saying you're wrong (they both mean the same thing in the end) just chuckling at the though of the longhorn being the "hard to play" version.☺

you're right, the longhorn is very easy to play.i really like them both, and a lot of people talk to me about the old beast,i like that.most people know its a dano.need a dano sticker for the head stock, get one some day maybe.been told that it sounds a lot like an upright,i like that sound with a little more kick.

talkin with a man and his wife sat nite and asked me all about my bass wanted to know the year it was and how long I,d had it.a lot of defferent people ask me about it each time I play.its not a big bass like a fender or Gibson, doesn't shine and is not flashy, but looks are deceiving, and it weighs 5/half pound.i'm 76 and I can play fri sat nite no problem, and also I love playin bass, been playin bass for 53 years.
