Darkglass alpha omega ultra

This is AWESOME!

Yep, I'm ordering an Alpha Omega Ultra AND the other new pedal that they just came out with: Microtubes B7K Ultra v2 - [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

I guess this means my new Vintage Ultra will be hitting the classifieds as soon as I get these in.

Thank God for the classifieds!

I am especially curious about the 6 band EQ without distortion. If I can dial in a nice clean sound, I would just need one pedal instead of 2. With distortion I already know I like the A/O standard.

Yeah. I’m building a PA system that could do dirt as a bass rig. This pedal into the power amp would be a simple but effective rig. Possibly replacing my 900 head.

My only (small) gripe with this pedal is that there is no insert, so if I want to send a direct amp sim to FOH (or use the headphone amp for practice) with a delay or modulation, I have to live with the dirt being the last item in the chain :crying:

That being said, amazing concept and design by the folks at darkglass. I'm loving this new market for combined preamp/heaphone amp/cab sim type devices. I think GK came close with the plex, and these new darkglass pre's are a step in the right direction for sure. Really keen to see how this market develops over the next few years.

Two points:

1) I totally get the seeing a new shiny that's shinier than your shiny and that gnawing OCD that's compelling you to get more shinies and shinier shinies. But the reality is that there is no "obsolescence" in music. In many cases the amps used on your favorite recording of cultural significance are still in service somewhere, and sound just as great as they did then. The only thing making you feel like you "need" to upgrade to the newest revision of your favorite pedal is your own psyche. The comparison to Apple is unfair because there is no such thing as Moore's law for music gear. I bought my B3K before the B7K was released. I've watched every iteration of every product DG has released with rapture, but none have had the featureset to justify the cost for me to make the investment in "upgrading" to when I'm already getting everything I need of "that sound" from the B3K. For instance, yes, the AOU has some features the original doesn't, but I notice they've ditched the para-eq entirely in favor of graphic. These are two very different approaches to tone sculpting. There's tradeoffs for both and some people prefer one over the other, and for good reasons.

2) When is Billy Sheehan gonna wake up and endorse DG?

Well my preorder is in...With my B7KU and SS this will really add some features that open up some truly exciting possibliltles for me and that alone is why I have rushed to be in. I was just about the get the omicron but truly the feautres of this pedal are truly EXACTLY the things that I was wanting in my future plans. Most exciting is the A/O off capabilies of the 6 band and IR with the B7k and also adding an extra tweak of A/O...ooohhh cant wait!!!! I suppose this makes me a serious fanboi now lol

Could you possibly describe the difference between the two? Why would you need both? Honest question, by the way, as I'm a huge Darkglass fan and have the Vintage and regular Microtubes from way back when they were first released.

they're both very very flexible pedals that are similar but very different lol. imo the AO is a much richer drive sound and tends to do better at higher distortion levels. the micro tubes does absolutely incredible things slightly driven again IMO but has quite a harsh, dry distortion. Again these are incredibly flexible pedals that cover similar ground but together I believe is where perfection lies lol.

Looking forward to get the mA draw of this one, I hope it will not be impacted too badly by the new digital components and the LEDs as I LOVE using my B7KU with a Volto 2.

Small gripe... I want this pedal. I bought a b7k ultra and was actually tempted by the alpha omega, because it sounded like the distortions were more pleasing, to my ear at least. And I almost forked over the 300+ euros for it.

Now here comes an upgrade. Which I may purchase. But I’m beginning to feel like I’m a fan of the “apple” of effects pedals. I buy a new pedal, it’s “obsolete” in a few months. And they’re not what you would call inexpensive.

Small gripe. And the products are tremendous.

Darkglass makes a 1590b small version, a 1590bb normal size version and a larger ultra version of every dirt pedal they have so I don't see why you would be surprised by the A/O ultra.

This. Man, you really, really nailed it.
One of the reasons technology has advanced as far as it has in recent years is that almost all businesses will sooner or later get disrupted, this is especially true when all that makes your product is technology that can be copied, improved-upon, or replaced by others' breakthroughs.

The only way to survive and thrive in the long run is to do your best to stay ahead, and that means improving things constantly and indefinitely, which can certainly become overwhelming at times as you have no chance to sit back, relax and enjoy, there is always a new mountain to climb.
The good news for you guys is that this means that the products you like using, in all industries are highly likely to become better, more efficient, and more affordable as time goes on.

I have a weird question Saw this video

In it you say you can't have the IRs on the 1/4” output. For those of us who don’t use traditional bass amps but like the clean tone we get out of a Different DI (I use an Avalon u5) I know it sounds ghetto but can I use an xlr to 1/4” adapter and run out of the Ultras xlr to the the Avalon so I can still use the Avalon for my clean tone but also have the A/O ultras IRs on my dirty tone?

Placed my order on Monday. So exciting. Gonna use it for an upcoming recording session. I've never been a big pedal guy, but I needed a DI/Preamp for recording and playing at home. Darkglass' quality is just outstanding.

I'm not mainly using it for extreme distortion, just adding some grit and cab emulation. It has all the features I want and a headphone output.

I'm gonna love using this thing before my Tone Hammer amp.

If you have the cab sim engaged on the DI out then it is on whether or not the effect is engaged. This means you’ll have the IR on for both clean and dirty tone.

Hi! You should be able to simply use a XLR/TRS cable.

If you need further help once the pedal comes out feel free to reach out.
