Darkglass alpha omega ultra

I’d say @Darkglass probably would :p

It’s an IR made by Dave Hollingworth using Darkglass 410 and a Beta 52 mic.

This, and other virtual cabinets captured by Dave and other reknown people on our roster, will be available for free with the Suite in a couple of weeks.

Great cab and a great mic. I wonder if anyone will make an IR of a beaten up Orange 8x10 with an SM57 that smells like beer and is wrapped in gaffa. Then I will truly be able to recreate the sound I get on stage :D

My only (small) gripe with this pedal is that there is no insert, so if I want to send a direct amp sim to FOH (or use the headphone amp for practice) with a delay or modulation, I have to live with the dirt being the last item in the chain :crying:

That being said, amazing concept and design by the folks at darkglass. I'm loving this new market for combined preamp/heaphone amp/cab sim type devices. I think GK came close with the plex, and these new darkglass pre's are a step in the right direction for sure. Really keen to see how this market develops over the next few years.

Don't you worry. If one thing is true about Darkglass there will be another version, the Uber, with a few more features to make you want it.

Interesting product.

I just purchased the Alpha Omega 10 days ago, and now the week long exchange period is over...

Before drowning in regret... I checked out the feature set. The alternate out jack is gone. I guess this follows the B7K ultra’s format.

Well, I gotta have the alternate out. Otherwise I need to use an additional DI (Radial JDI) which would mean that I need to do micro phase alignments every time I blend the A/O with clean or transformer coupled semi-dirty... Very time consuming for me.

So, it is all good! I will live with the A/O happily ever after.

By the way, I would love to use Darkglass impulse responses (I put on some free cab sim on the DI out from A/O for Recording, and results are significantly improved).

@Darkglass are your impulse responses only available for free for owners of the ultra?

Cheers!

Hi! The impulses will only be available as a part of the Darkglass Suite (which needs a Darkglass pedal connected via USB to unlock).

OK, straight to (my amateur) point:

Alpha Omega with (free) impulse response (SVT cab miced with beta 52 according to file name):

and, same thing with no impulse response:

What do you guys think? IR or DI from A/O?

I think those who have been using the A/O direct without some kind of cab simulation will ABSOLUTELY LOVE the new Ultra pedal... Well played darkglass - this is a MAJOR improvement. There were a bunch of decent to good quality cab simulating pedals out there - not needed anymore!

Hasn't it been less than a year since the first AO came out? And then a few months later they came out with the mini version and now we're already getting an Ultra?

Noticed that too. The A/O thing is starting to feel and sound trendy. Not saying its not good, but not a lot of forward thinking with this one. Just more accessible and convenient

I don't see how bringing something in line with the rest of their products is trendy.

There's the:
Vintage Microtubes, Vintage Deluxe and Vintage Ultra
B3K, B7K, B7K, and B7K Ultra
B3K v2, B7K v2 and B7K Ultra V2
Alpha Omnicron, Alpha Omega and Alpha Omega Ultra

For me the Alpha Omega and Alpha Omnicron didn't interest me. I didn't need another purely distortion pedal however the features of the Alpha Omega Ultra are perfect for what I am after.

When it comes to research and development it would be foolish to think that a company should sit on their design until they think they have come up with every idea they can for it. Also some people just don't need every iteration.

YMMV :)

Cool demos and thank you for the kind words.
The Suite can import and load third party impulses onto our pedals by the way, so you can test and use whatever IRs you can get your hands onto.
