Darkglass - Alpha Omega

Idk about you guys but the IR stuff is super exciting!!! The fact that you can load ones you want in is super awesome. This is really cool.

@gregmon79 , damn it, I will try to find our discussion with you, somewhere in Darkglass forums, trying to remember which one, probably was in the Revolution one, which after many months, I did what I told there and Doug caught me offguard again :) Hold on the line :)

That's exactly what happened when I switched to 250 Hz on M900 ;)
As I am writing this, I have a nasty idea that can further burn my wallet :) Adding a Vintage Ultra to the setup and have B7K Ultra, Vintage Ultra and M900 set up at different frequencies for low-mid and high-mid. Though B7K Ultra is much more close to me in sound, maybe I will try this someday, just for curiosity.
Somebody stop me :)

And have AO now too, only to learn AO Ultra is already out today :roflmao:

Never thought I'd own an overdrive pedal and not use the drive but that's how I use it. After months of tweaking, I use it with the drive all the way down, the bite switch off, and the only thing on is the growl switch, the mod in the middle, and blend and level at 11:00. I find the EQ to be very good. This setting is good for me for a more natural o/d boost and not sounding too electrical and buzzy with the drive up and bite switch on. I'm completely satisfied with the sound using it in this manner. It compliments both my SVT 2 Pro and Engl SS with tube pre.

Same here! I just can't get rid of the strange noisy dirt with my Alpha Omega. Do you get nice "clean" sound out of it? I don't mind a bit of dirt in my "clean" sound (like on my B7K that cleans up really well), but what's happening here sounds really strange. It sounds like a separate layer of crackling farty noise placed over my clean tone (which disappears after a few seconds) – it sounds exactly as if my cab speakers were broken – as if the paper cone membrane of the speaker is torn, and it's making that typical farty noise. What can I do to get rid of this. If I turn the volume knob on my bass down it just isn't the same.

So as expected the ultra looks great however, is anyone else annoyed by the shared eq still? The ir stuffs cool makes the di really usable( it is already imo)

But a headphone socket? I’m no really sure why that needs to be there!? Cue a load of questions in months to come of “ I got a great sound at home but thru my amp pedal sounds different”

I know darkglass are on here and it’s my opinion just seems extra thing for no real reason, love my alpha omega so kinda glad I dnt need to upgrade

If I was going to own just one pedal for bass this would be it because it can do everything I'd need (except for tuning and fun effects). It's an amazing backline, and for a lot of people if they're not using things like chorus, octavers, and reverb (and even for some those who do), this would be their last pedal in the chain and so they can practice at home without any of the volume from an amp. In fact this is already how I practice for both bass and guitar, and actually how I play live (though I would like to bring my guitar amp sometimes).

I already have a setup and prefer a sound where my drives are up front and my compression, effects, and cabinet simulation are behind it, so the IR loading and headphone out aren't selling points for ME, but I absolutely see the utility.

I actually want to ask my church if they'd think about investing in these for different campuses. They might see how heavy some of the demos are and be wary lol, but I've got a few Darkglass pedals now and everyone has loved how they sound in services so I might be able to bring them around on it.

Is the drive knob down all the way and Bite switch off? Adjust the blend down as well. Try turning the growl switch off. The mod in the middle seems to lessen the dirt as well. You can turn the level up to have a clean boost and then turn the blend up to add a little dirt.

I have a Vintage Ultra and really wish the EQ could be switched off for the “clean” channel so I could sculpt the distortion using the EQ then blend it into the incoming uneffected signal

I read on the DG site that the new Darkglass Suite can enable toggling between alpha and omega drive engines via the pedal's footswitch. Maybe there's a way Doug could have the program also enable switching the eq off on the clean side? This would be useful to me as well...

Unless you need the missing mid range frequency bands, wouldn't the normal vintage deluxe be what you are after?

EDIT: mentioned the wrong pedal, Fixed!

Yeah. They had the right idea at first. Too bad it wasn’t followed through when they added the multi band EQ.

If I understand the pedals correctly, a vintage deluxe won’t do this. The eq on all Darkglass pedals is post everything, including however much clean you blend in.

Using the parallel out on the non-ultra pedals with eq gives the unaffected clean signal, so a blender could be used to mix your unaffected clean and eq’d dirt back together. That, or you’d need a splitter before the pedal.

I know on the aou you can toggle between alpha and The omega sides id rather have it so you can select either one or other with a blend acting as a clean blend if one side is of or a blend between if both are on.

And a eq side for the cleans would be sweet

Howdy folks! Been a while since I posted here, lots going on in the Darkglass world as always! Just wondering, do any of you use the Alpha Omega for FOH? I'm going on tour in Russia next week and travelling light so just bringing my bass and the AO and other small essentials. I was thinking of just using whatever bass amps are provided for stage sound and sending my signal straight out of the AO to the PA. Interested to hear peoples thoughts on their sound and if they were happy with this kind of setup.

Not FOH, but I didn’t think it needed much tweaking for recording DI. Heavier distortion settings obviously become more challenging. Might be time for the AO Ultra, or an AO and a DSM OCSD.

Yeah I wish I could have the Ultra version for next week! It would be great with the cab sim. But for this tour the AO is all I'll be bringing in terms of pedals aside from my G70 wireless which is doubling up as my tuner as well.
