Darkglass Anagram Multi FX Announced

Just got the Anagram today, soundwise I feel it has more bottom end extention and clarity than QC and other digital pedals I tried, which pushed me to buy it. The blocks are all very useful. Would really like to see the attack cut/boost option on the B3k and VMT(I know its pre-eq but still..), which I used alot on the Ultras.

I would just like to echo this, I had the QC and hated it, couldn’t dial anything in. Anagram I can enjoy clean.

I’d resisted digital for so long but so glad I took the plunge on this one.

You should be able to get even more tonal variety using the tone control of the B3K

I've just tried this by selecting "Binding" view and I can move the pedal switch icons like you can and they stay wherever I move them! I need to save the preset afterwards to lock this in as you would expect. The only difference I can see from your video is that you are "Controlling Active Scene".

So what exactly is the difference? Are you "Controlling all scenes"?
What actually works for me is to drag&drop the bindings in stomp mode. Is that what you were doing, too, maybe?

But I realized scrolling through the cabs, that it doesn't include all of the cabs found on the other DG pedals?
For example the DG810,DG112 and the X analog cabinet which I used alot in the past.
Went to DG website and compared the cab list of anagram to other pedals, and there are indeed quiet a few missing. Any idea as to why and when they might become available?
As a side note, I really like how the NDSP Darkglass DG210C Cab implementation sounds, hopefully we can get a DG210 in anagram someday.

I share the same thought. Specifically, the DG810 would be a great addition to the standard amp cabinet block. Not sure why it's not included. I managed to download a version of it from tone3000. But it would be easier to use if it was integrated by default. Maybe because they don't actually make that cabinet anymore... but shouldn't matter for a digital pedal.

The compressor updates are really good. Before, I had to use a headphone and had to add lots of gain to notice and tweak my sound on the Hyper Luminal block. Now the knob inputs are very apparent.
Great to hear it’s working well for you :)

Not really sure. I use my Anagram in stomp mode and use the pedals to turn on or off each block. I'm not using any bindings to adjust block parameters so thats probably why I'm not seeing or using the "Controlling Active Scene" option you have on your video. So yes I am just doing drag&drop the bindings in stomp mode.

It's already been said many times today and in the past 6 months, but I'm super impressed with the rate and quality of updates thus far.

I generally agree with 'buy hardware for what it can do now; not what the manufacturer promises it will do in the future.' That said, I'm very happy I committed to this thing in June. DG has delivered on multiple promises already, and the direct responses to customer feedback & requests makes this a very exciting tool. Hopefully this encourages continued feedback and ideation from end-users, since it's been fruitful.

I'm gonna be greedy in spite of today's killer update. Some wishlist items for me are...

Game-changers:
  • Allow for the option to change the function of the Anagram footswitches from long-press only to latching (where effect changes/engages on initial press - not release). Momentary as an option would be a bonus.
  • Blend on the phaser would be great for using some of the more extreme settings without 'drop-outs'. It also allows users to use the full range of settings in more subtle ways.
  • This is a massive long-shot, but a Traynor TS-50B/Rusty Box block would be my everything. For now, I'll keep it in the effects loop...
  • A bass wah block controlled by an expression pedal would be killer, but that's incredibly hard to pull off. I've yet to hear someone make an expression pedal jack on an EF emulate a true wah pedal. So this would likely be it's own effect, rather than an improvement upon an EF block.
Nice-to-have:
  • Strobe tuner function for better/easier visual.
  • Improve and expand the envelope filters. They could both be wetter and more dramatic sounding, and the sensitivity controls are just not there. EFs are subjective, but they both feel pretty tame and a little touchy compared to good analog filters. They're fine for synth chains where you're slamming them with fuzz, octave, etc. But they need more nuance and dynamics for cleaner filter sounds, and they just don't get fat or quacky enough to compete with the heavy hitters in this category. Think Emma Discumbobulator or Mutron Micro-tron III/IV for references.

+1 for the blend feature on the Phaser. It's a must, when the Chorus & Flanger have it already. @IvanBassist , please ;-))

hey all you Anagram users. I've been watching the thread since it started and I still have interest in the Anagram, but am still a bit put off by the limits of 3 foot switches for live work. Seems like a ton of tone shaping options to be (possibly) limited by only having 3 switchable options on a gig.

Now, that being said, I have been following along here about those who have added a MIDI foot switch to expand the live playing options. For you guys who are doing live performance work with the Anagram; do you feel like the 3 available footswitches are adequate or is a MIDI footswitch pretty much needed to get all you need from the Anagram.

I'm not at all familiar with Multi-FX units so perhaps I'm just not understanding something basic, but I'd love to hear from users who require more than 3 sound/tone/FX options when playing live.

FWIW, my gigging season is slowing down and I would have some time to work with a new box like the Anagram before my gig calendar ramps up again in the new year.

thanks!

In a single song are you really needing more than 3 tone variations? I know it's possible, that's a clarifying question and not a 'are you out of your mind' question :)

Because if not, then you can think of it as 3 tones variations (either by using scenes or in stomp mode) per Preset. And from there, you can easily change Preset between songs.

But, if the answer to the above is actually Yes, then most people seem to be going with some form of MIDI Footswitch (often the Darkglass one, but the Morningstar stuff is incredibly versatile, or at the lower end of the spectrum the MVave stuff). Personally, I've veered away from pedal board tap dancing and just MIDI automate all my Preset and Scene changes now, so if that is an option for you, I'd strongly recommend it.

I suspect the main first challenge people using MIDI footswitches are working around is the way the Anagram makes you jump between Preset Banks (requires at least 2 footswitch presses) and the couple of seconds audio drop performing that operation. Again, this assumes you can't optimise your Presets by putting them in the same Preset Bank. At least by using a MIDI footswitch to trigger the loading of specific Presets brings it back to a single footswitch press.

Sorry, may I understand that curently there´s no wah block to use with an expression pedal in Anagram? That´s one of my mandatory effects in HX Stomp.

There is no Wah block.

Closest at the moment is the envelope filter blocks.
