Darkglass Anagram Multi FX Announced

I love when people say that software developers shouldn’t be able to sell their products. Makes me all warm and fuzzy. And poor. So very very poor.

Anyhoo, can you believe my fridge is empty? You buy a device to keep food cold, but there is no food in it?! They better be filling that thing for free…

Also, musicians shouldn’t be able to make money selling music… hey, almost mission successful with that one.

Please send money.

Sellout

All these people complaining about the market place after it was launched were probably singing the Anagrams praise just prior.

I wish I could say what I want, but I’ll get dinged for calling all of you who are complaining what I want to call you.

The unit DOESNT need the plugins to be badass. It’s NOT “half done” as some dope wrote. Or don’t support the company then, I’m sure they won’t lose a second of sleep because people will be buying the unit as is and not use the Marketplace.

I know keyboard players who have dumped thousands into their hardware, to literally spend a ton more to get better pianos, more synths etc for their one board.

Again, two days ago you weren’t “disgusted” and completely loved the Anagram.
But oh man, offer some third party developers a chance to sell their plugins and you all lose your collective <word that rhymes with “Hit” and but starts with “S”>

Rant over.
Off to practice.

Personally, I would never support a company which sells (or allows the sale of) 100 bucks add-ons, as I would conclude that the (high) cost of the gear is not a finished price for a high end bass tool, bust just an initial one, leading to double spending by just adding 10 sounds/sims. I have reasons to believe that such move would put the Anagram out of market. Iphone’s apps, indeed, don’t work this way, being most of great apps free, some which require a small investment, and only very few asking for a premium and those by themselves would have never led Iphone into being a successful product. Either you sell the platform for cheap knowing that the customer is going to build it according to his needs at a premium, or you charge a premium for the platform and cover bassists needs mainly for free or a very very low price. Doing both wouldn’t work as a strategy. When a company makes great things is only half-there. It is extremely easy to loose all good achieved due to a wrong move.
Hmm, I mean it’s your choice, you can vote with your wallet. 👍🤓

I own an Anagram and LOVE it
it is bass-only and sounds fantastic with a good UI that releases frequent feature enhancements and quality updates… and I don’t own a single plugin (yet?). 😅

DG has some great products (including the Anagram) and a their market is growing. They are bass focused and building amazing products for bassists, I’ll continue support that.

What’s great about TB is that, If you own other gear, you can find another owner’s forum that you can participate in for that gear (too).

This latest Anagram update has really highlighted how society has become a bunch of privileged, whiny, entitled babies. The walls of text people are writing on Facebook to justify their meltdowns is just wild. Maybe if these people were as passionate about doing literally anything else other than complain, their lives wouldn't be so pathetic and unfulfilling that their only source of joy is ranting in a comment section.

It's also really clear that most people don't have even the slightest understanding of what goes into developing a physical product and successfully bringing that to market. And if that physical product requires companion software, that is an even higher degree of complexity and risk.

Darkglass is NOT a large company, even though they are owned by Korg. If they had waited to release the Anagram until development of every feature was 100% finished, they likely would have gone bankrupt before it even reached market. That's why you see so many companies do Kickstarters, presales, or other forms of crowdfunding. The injection of capital is necessary to fund the development process.

And, releasing a decent initial software build to the public, like Darkglass did, then iterating on that frequently (as they are doing) allows them to get ongoing feedback from users around what is working and what is not, which informs their development priorities and features they choose to prioritize.

People keep screaming for a synth like it is something Darkglass can just go to a store, pick off the shelf, and drop into the Anagram. It took Panda Audio years to develop the Future impact, and they are continuing to release new and improved versions. Devloping the C4 Synth was an enormous risk for Soucre Audio given the complexity of the undertaking, and also took them years. Development of the MXR Bass Synth took over a year at least.

I sincerely hope the synth from Darkglass doesn't come any time soon, because rushing something like that will result in it being absolute garbage. Imagine how people would b!tch and complain if they rushed it out and the tracking was terrible, or the interface was not user friendly.

Most video game companies sell their consoles at very little profit, or at a loss, and rely on sales of games to make actual profit.

Ok. That's more than enough internet for me for one day. I'm going to go play with the new ring mod and bit crusher plugins that I bought for the Anagram :bassist:

I mean, it’s a marketplace.

I think this is a pretty well known model, but typically a company that has a marketplace doesn’t control the pricing of products produced and sold by vendors that participate in the market… the developer/seller’s set their own pricing. It’s an opportunity for others to extend the product(s) and earn revenue.

Just because there’s an expensive app in the App Store, doesn’t mean that it’s an amazing app… it may or may not be, but the developer sets the pricing and the market will determine if it’s a useful and/or great app.

Kudos to Darkglass for providing a marketplace and an opportunity for developers to extend the platform, all good stuff.

You can choose to vote with your wallet. 🤷‍♂️

Hi! I couldn't find the answers in the documentation. I'm interested in how many NAM profiles and IRs can be loaded into Anagram. In simpler terms, how much internal memory is allocated for this?
Also, with some NAMs, when I used them, I got a message about the device overloading, even though there was only one of that profile in the chain (they were amplifier blocks). Are there any restrictions on the profiles that can be loaded?

I’ve not hit a limit yet and I’ve got over a 100 nams and irs loaded.

Nams are actually quite small files like 300-400kbs

On your chain you mention how many other fx did you have running? Processing load varies wildly especially with the new plugins. So it’s hard to say oh you can run 24 blocks or 12 an 3 nams, 18 and 2 nams etc.

It’s really gonna depend what’s on in that chain.

If you regularly find yourself running out of dsp then I’d suggest you need to look into a Quad Cortex Mini

Yes, 100 is more than enough! But I would like to have an understanding of the internal memory capacity of the device. I am also interested in information about the characteristics of the IRs that can be loaded into the pedal. I want to know if they are converted to a proprietary format or loaded without any changes. This is more of a question for the manufacturer, as there is no information about this in the documentation. From my experience with processors from other manufacturers, their length and the number of available cells are limited. As I understand it, the Anagram space is also not unlimited.

I just bought a Morningstar MC4 pro to use with the Anagram. This is my first time using midi. I'm curious to know how people are using midi with the anagram. I'm thinking one button for favourite presets, another for tap tempo, not sure what else though. Please share tips on best ways to use midi that help in your use case scenarios as it's all very new to me. TIA.

The DSP consumption of NAM depends a lot on how each NAM capture was made.

Regarding the amount of files you can load into the Anagram, it's definitely way more than enough. There's enough storage space inside

Can you have scenes AND stomp mode at the same time?

Like button one does one scene, button two does another, but button 3 is just a stomp?
You cannot mix modes.

We are aware users have requested more Scenes and we are currently working on a solution for that :)

Speaking of hilarious negative comments about the marketplace, I was trying to reason with someone in YouTube comments about it yesterday (I know, absolutely pointless). They just continued saying we're all sheep feeding the big corporations and how we need to wake up and that Korg will probably fold Darkglass within a year.

It was at this point I just chuckled to myself and was glad I have a brain 😅

Beware the Bass Industrial Complex, down with Big Plugin

I've also seen fearmongering on Instagram comments that this is the first step towards locking your Anagram for use unless you pay for a regular subscription ;)

The negative reactions would make you believe the Anagram basically included no sonic options up until now and the introduction of Marketplace was the first software update since launch ... :D

I had a look at the Marketplace and some of the videos on YouTube about it. I would totally pay $29 to get the Aguilar amp model, for now. And I might want something else at a later time. What's great about the system is that you can try different things without being locked into the "real amp", which is like a lifetime purchase for some people (I still have my 1992 SWR Basic 350). Also, how cool is that free drum machine !!? We sometimes buy things for our phones and tablets on the App Store and/or Google Play, so the Darkglass Marketplace just makes sense, at least to me. It's a huge benefit for customers, developers, and Darkglass.
