Darkglass Anagram Multi FX Announced

Yeah, just wasn’t expecting to get that warning.
Probably the reason they are limiting to 3 NAM blocks as well.

Respectfully, this concerns me if it runs out of steam this early, because NAM blocks, plugins, and I would also imagine native blocks, are only going to get more resource demanding.

The resource requirements vary from plugin to plugin (as you would expect).

I’ve managed to run like 5 of the Cognate ones, with a nam and several native effects.

But the punk sans I can only run with 1 other nam or plugin and 1-2 native blocks.

Maybe this will change over time and some plugins will refine processor usage, maybe this is just the price of that particular effect.

My advice to anyone running out of DSP is to move to the Quad Cortex (might not be the answer most want to hear).

The benefit I find on the Anagram is generally I can do with 1 block what I need several on other devices to accomplish.

But dsp and usage is always an issue with these units. I’m seeing friends hitting dsp limited now they’re using v2 captures on the QC.

But yeah usage wildly varies from plugin to plugin.

Same. I'm not searching for anything in my sounds that generally isn't covered by the blocks we currently have, but the Mint Chocolate Chorus from Darkglass that I need to kick in from time to time just didn't do it for me, no matter how much I tweaked the settings.

The free Pirkko Chorus Deluxe plugin (Anagram Marketplace) was just the difference in Chorus sound I was looking for. I think it is largely due to the X-Over parameter to keep the lower frequencies cleaner. For me, this makes is much more usable for the commercial pop/rock songs I'm performing where I'm just changing Scenes for a Middle 8 or Interlude to kick in a Chorus.

While I haven't made time to try it, I suspect this will also pair with an Octaver block nicely for the same reasons.
same here. i too like it a bit better than a stock one.
and you are spot on - i am using it with octaver block - sounds great to me

I haven’t read through all the responses (read: complaints) but how is what Darkglass doing any different than what
Line 6, Neural DSP or IK Multimedia doing with regards to offering additional addons available for purchase for those that want them? do people complain about buying IRs? Kemper profiles? they’ve made it abundantly clear that the unit itself will be receiving substantial, free upgrades as part of what the Anagram offers. what am I missing here?
Well its a bit different. First Neural DSP is quite often critized for prioritizing their plugins over the development of new features for the QC. With Kemper its also not an offical marketplace and the effects are all in there. For Line 6 they sell preset packs, not specific effects

The quite reasonable fear is that Darkglass will significantly slow down development of new effects, cabs etc as that is now handled by the marketplace. The thing is that Korg historically still added value - so while the skepticism is reasonable, it is also quite exaggurated.

I think development is definitely going to slow. We see rumours of a b15 and they’ve confirmed a synth.

I imagine after that it’ll be quality of life improvements and some improvements to the suite/app/desktop editor.

Which whilst useful are really boring when you want new blocks 😂

But after a b15 and a synth, what is this pedal really missing? Not saying this as a negative but I just don’t know what I’d be after after that 🤷🏻‍♂️

Well... The Helix Stadium is also running into resources issues with clone blocks... And it costs 2x as much.

I think we're expecting next Gen power and it just doesn't exist yet.

Saying that, the new NAM architecture is supposedly able to run on lesser processors.

I'm waiting for the next next generation where all the drive related stuff is NAM/Captures - so preamps in delay and reverb, amps, cabs, etc.

I use nebula a lot in my studio, and it sounds sooooo much better than algorithmic plugins. But also it's endlessly more processor intensive.

A NAM/Nebula based multi fx would be amazing... But it'd need the power of a higher spec desktop....

And a world class interface and preamps.

Until then we all become resource management bros. 😂

I've had my Anagram for a year now and really enjoying the experience, thanks to all at Darkglass

I think the introduction of the marketplace is a great step in opening up the options available to the wide range of users, whether they use it or not. Reading through a few posts from the last couple of days of posts I have a couple of questions:

1) Is it possible for marketplace developers to post on their "pedal / block" adverts the approximate DSP useage? This would be usefull for those who use a lot of blocks in a preset.
2) Is it possible for the Anagram to have a DSP % useage added to the screen? When building the chain it will allow people to monitor the loading and adjust their blocks accordingly.
3) Can the Darkglass Suite indicate where "non-standard Anagram" blocks are used in user made presets ie: from the marketplace or elsewhere. If not I see see this as a bit of an oversight as you'll need to check whether you have all the relevant blocks bought before you can try it.

As soon as my pedals can mine crypto whilst I’m chilling in the green room 💪

With its display, the Anagram is so easy to use that I personally don't really miss having an editor (even though I love it on the H90, for example). I definitely prefer the marketplace.

I didn't find that to be the case at all. The screen was a beating to deal with for me and others as well. Either way, it's a highly requested feature that people have asked for since its launch.

We are working on an editor

1) Good one. I can certainly put that info ASAP on Clack's website, at least.
3) IIRC, it does already in Preset Hub. Again, IIRC, Small orange and red icons appear close to non-standard blocks to indicate that (orange = non-standard but available, red = non-standard and not available?)

Hi! I couldn't find the answers in the documentation. I'm interested in how many NAM profiles and IRs can be loaded into Anagram. In simpler terms, how much internal memory is allocated for this?
Also, with some NAMs, when I used them, I got a message about the device overloading, even though there was only one of that profile in the chain (they were amplifier blocks). Are there any restrictions on the profiles that can be loaded?

I’ve not hit a limit yet and I’ve got over a 100 nams and irs loaded.

Nams are actually quite small files like 300-400kbs

On your chain you mention how many other fx did you have running? Processing load varies wildly especially with the new plugins. So it’s hard to say oh you can run 24 blocks or 12 an 3 nams, 18 and 2 nams etc.

It’s really gonna depend what’s on in that chain.

If you regularly find yourself running out of dsp then I’d suggest you need to look into a Quad Cortex Mini
I'm late to reply, but I've loaded enough NAM captures that the unit was starting to act broken. IIRC I could still add or open an existing NAM block, but the unit would crash when I went back to the signal chain view. I can't give you an exact number where it starts to break, but I try to stay below 500 now.

I know 500 sounds ridiculous, and it is in the very practical sense of needing to scroll through them since there's no editor, but I'm mainly using it for guitar and those paid NAM packs from 2dor and SlamminMofo are massive so it's not actually that many amps. The solution is obviously to prune the packs and not load too many similar captures of each amp. I usually ignore all the clean captures because I have better things to do than pretend I care about clean tones.

More generally, be careful of the architecture of the NAM captures. I'm pretty sure the Anagram can't properly play larger architectures like xStd, RevXHi, etc. because whenever I've tried they've sounded subtly broken - there's a high pitched ringing that isn't there on the standard architecture version from the same NAM pack. You can still load them onto the device though. The official standard architecture are all fine: feather, nano, lite, and standard.

I'm glad you mentioned that. I tried the REVyHI architecture a while back because the standard method wasn't quite capturing the magic of one pedal, and I got that high pitched ringing, too. I wouldn't say it was subtle though! I assumed I had done something wrong, but I thought it was odd that the ringing didn't show up in the TONE3000 preview. Hopefully the new A2 architecture will close the gap.

I finally dived info the Anagram and I do believe Darkglass did a great work till now.

Just a few questions (maybe answered in previous posts but didn’t notice in more than half of these thread pages read):

1) so basically we go to the marketplace to download blocks which are simulations, while we go to places like tone3000 to load Nam files that are captures of the real thing. These are usually more DSP consuming than blocks, and require us to download all file as the captures occur at several setup stages of the real thing. Into the block (that represent the amp/pedal captured) we then find a selector of these single stages so to use the one we want to use. Is this correct?

2) the pitch switch doesn’t work on a per string bases as my VB does (guess due to lack of the pickup which allows simulated basses to be operated with single string treatment), or is a way around to tune a single string only with the Anagram?

3) has anyone noticed in the Anagram a block with Nam files related to stuff we already have as standard blocks?

4) has anyone loaded a Human Gear Animato nam file from Tone3000 and heard a high background noise when engaged?

Thanks
