Darkglass Anagram Multi FX Announced

I've actually listed the cali76 for sale to help fund the Anagram, but it can live on the board in the meantime. If I could afford to I'd keep it though, it's a beautiful pedal and would do a better job than the Anagram FET.
I'm keeping the DCX for my effects loop as I'm in love with that pedal. I captured NAMs of it last week, so the Anagram could actually replace it (I tested them last night and the captures sound great on the Anagram) - but my mate told me never to sell gear you're in love with so I'm listening to him.

Sage advice from your friend - love, love, love my Cali76 and I'm not sure I want to part with it... though it may not make it onto the Anagram board. Sorely tempted to pick up the DCX in spite of how much I absolutely love the VMT.

Yes, but can you switch on/off blocks and change settings with it? The manual says you can’t at the moment? And you can only connect expression pedal and not expand with a footswitch 4 and 5?

Currently, the MIDI implementation is restricted to program changes, but will be expanded with future firmware dates.

Also the MIDI and expression ports are separate, so you can attach any number of MIDI switches / controllers to it as well as an expression pedal. In a pinch you could add something like a Morningstar controller for more buttons / controls when the implementation is more fully fleshed out.

As with many features on this pedal; The promise from Darkglass is that those features are coming as they continue to develop the firmware. I suspect this model will integrate better and possibly sooner than those from third party developers. Their footswitch can connect to the e500 via USB as well, and since the Anagram has a USB port it's conceivable that such a connection may be possible there as well which would then leave the MIDI ports free for other device uses.

It's all speculative at this point, so the answer to your question is "hopefully."

Has anyone downloaded the Split Octaves, Colossus and Ephemeris II presets that Stephen Lane demo'd? He said that they'd be available in the latest Firmware update via the Darkglass Suite, but they're not part of the firmware that I've downloaded.

On the device they are available in the factory preset manager. Click on a preset name and switch then in the upper right corner by clicking on ‘user’ to switch to ‘factory’

How is everyone liking the three octave options? Are any of them convincingly OC-2’ish? Specifically there are two sounds for my gigs that are critical:

1. The 50/50 blended Tony Levin sound from Peter Gabriel’s Sledgehammer

2. The 100% wet Tim Lefebvre or Janek Gwizdala thing that you hear a lot in modern jazz, lo-fi, and as a general starting point for building analog synth type tones.

I actually ordered the midi foot switch too because it does connect, and is powered by USB vs having to use the midi ports.

You should watch Ian’s Instagram video, he actually demoed playing Sledgehammer with it, and it sounded pretty convincing.

Just for the funsies, current thoughts on how I’m going to build out the Anagram board. Honestly not sold on the Altoids tin (taking suggestions) and I may have a 105Q instead of the Lehle until there’s a wah block available. Power would be CIOKS DC7 + Crux.

I’ve been a Peterson tuner fanboy for years, but find the Anagram tuner very precise. You maybe not need the Shure.

It’s far more about the wireless than the tuner. I have a few Sonic Research tuners that I swear by, but the Shure is pretty much on par and it may literally be indestructible.

FWIW, I used the tuner on the Anagram earlier to set intonation and it tracks really well and is super easy to use. Can’t wait for a strobe setting.

Haha yea I've just found out the intonation on my A string isn't as good as my polytune was reporting

Oh? That's fantastic news! I gave my Peterson strobostomp to my guitarist a while back, and have been finding built in tuners on other devices lacking.

When it comes to power supplies, is there anything that can handle the full 2a of the anagram WITHOUT resorting to using 4+ outputs?

Yes, I used my IPad charger going into the USB C outlet on Sunday at church and it worked perfectly. At home I use the Darkglass provided power supply, so that I can also use the USB C to connect to my PC. Eventually we’ll just be able use the USB C for power as Bluetooth will be used for data connections.

I’m very interested in this pedal. But…

I don’t use distortion, basically ever, except for one heavy band that is no more. I’ve always had one on my board, but never need it.
I might use an amp/speaker sim as a way to get a tone I like, but I don’t need that.

I have a few pedals the Anagram could replace: PastFX (Moog filter clone), OC5, Broughton HPF.

A couple of pedals the Anagram may or may not replace: Cali76 comp and Noble preamp.

I want a phaser and the Anagram doesn’t have one. :(

I got a good deal on an H9 and it will arrive tomorrow. I was thinking about adding either an HX one or a Stomp.

Basically, I generally want a nice clean, punchy, fat modern/vintage type tone, for finger and slap and sometimes pick. Sometimes a synth or octave sound or a phaser tone would be awesome. The tracking on the oct and synth sounds is probably better on the Anagram, which would be great..

So, would I be better served by the Anagram, or the H9 + HX One/Stomp?
