Darkglass Anagram Multi FX Announced

So, would I be better served by the Anagram, or the H9 + HX One/Stomp?
It really depends on if you want to reduce the number of pedals to the minimum, or if you prefer to keep separate pedals.
  • If you want be as compact as possible, Marco said in Ian Allison's video that the phaser should be added soon to the Anagram.
  • If you don't mind keeping separate pedals, try the H9 when you recevice it - it seems to offer an incredible collection of modulation, pitch-shifting and delay effects, you may even not need to add a HX Stomp/One.

I'm interested to hear from any QC users who have, or may, move to the Anagram. How do they compare across the board: sound quality, FX options, ease of setup, ease of use for live gigging etc.

Right off the bat the Anagram appears to be smaller than the Quad Cortex as well as a bit less expensive.

I ask because I have been strongly considering the Quad Cortex (thanks @IvanBassist! ;)) for a while now. Now that the Anagram has arrived, it could be a better choice.
I had QC but sold it after i bought Anagram.

Soundwise there is no big difference, you can get high quality sounds from both. Anagram has more bass distortions (whole Darkglass range) and bass cabs than QC. QC is better for dialing complex signal chains because of the bigger display. Anagram's user interface is also very good and intuitive, sound tweaking is easy and fast. It is nice to have pedal images visible. If you use only a simple signal chains, no paraller routing etc, there is no difference in my opinion. Anagram's tuner tracks bass better than QC.

Anagram has only three footswitches against QC:s ten, that might be issue for someone.

The biggest plus to Anagram is that the whole device is designed for bass. QC is a guitar rig with some bass devices, in Anagram there is no "useless" guitar stuff :) If you play also guitar then QC might be better option. But for bass only I would choose Anagram.

I have made one gig with Anagram, everything went without problems. Sound engineer praised the bass sound, and to be honest the sound in my IEM was better than ever.

As a closure, as a former QC user the Anagram is much more suitable for my needs. Biggest con at the moment is the lack of bluetooth and audio interface support, but they are coming.

I created a very simple preset to show what you are looking for.

The split block goes to low freq loop (compressor) and high freq loop (distortion, fuzz etc)

The merge block merges these two loops together

The first output goes to XLR1 (headphones inactive)

The return enables the aux signal (your IEM mix) to be blended in

The second output block enables headphones and disables XLR1

Hopefully this helps to understand the possibilities
Fantastic! Thank you so much! I did not envision how the output blocks sort of tap into signal chain. Makes sense.

Are those the Cioks cables? This would give a total of 1980ma off the 3 outputs right? I have a Cioks Sol as well so I'm interested in this route rather than getting a Crux.
These are the CIOKS 8800 parallel that I used with my HX STOMP. So I tell myself that the anagram must work on the same principle as the HX STOMP, a peak of consumption at the ignition then lower values and in the 3 output configuration, it's more than enough, zero worries. And an output of the cioks sol can deliver more than what is written on the manual, more than the 660.

Just got my Ana this week, going thru the learning curve.
I’m also playing with a DCX/Sushibox Venus (actual pedals) and the tone is very nice.
With the current Ana models, what would be the closest approach to that?
Gentle/Kuliniken? Trying it but not yet there…
Tks!

Oh? That's fantastic news! I gave my Peterson strobostomp to my guitarist a while back, and have been finding built in tuners on other devices lacking.

When it comes to power supplies, is there anything that can handle the full 2a of the anagram WITHOUT resorting to using 4+ outputs?
Canvas HP can do 3A:

No, it won’t. 660 is just rounded. It does 500mA@12V, which is 6W, which is 666.66666(and so on)mA@9V. In other words 6W times 3 is 18W divided by 9V is 2A.

Is there anyway I can get a pure dry signal of my bass, sort of like a bypass mode? I have tried turning of all of the effects but the sound is blah and not the natural sound of my bass. I might be missing something . Any tips out there would be appreciated.

What signal chain are you comparing it to? I can’t imagine it’s actually doing anything audible in an effectively bypassed state.

Hmmmm, that definitely would do the thing, but then again... walrus audio though...

My goal is that I do not want a signal chain. I want to build from ground 0 being my original bass tone and not a blunt non dynamic tone when I go and turn off all the effects that anagram offers in their signal chain.
