Darkglass Microtubes 900 Class D Amp

...wouldn't there have been room for 'Propertubes' in there?

This morning Doug gave me the okay to fess up on this..... I too have known this for over a year now so ill quit playing completely dumb on this!!

From my understanding, the NAMM amps are actually bigger demo models, so the actual production amps will be smaller.... so to answer your question no, tubes probably *won't * fit in the final product!

These bigger NAMM amps were used for infrared heat testing to determine the best spot to put a fan to cool the amp!! Pretty slick and well planned out;)

And i laughed quite a few times yesterday when people were saying "it has to be expensive, their pedals are soooo expensive!!" Etc...one guy said he estimates $1,600 LOL

I don't know the exact price as of yet, but I feel pretty confident to say its *not* gonna be $1,600 LOL;)

Hey, @Darkglass, here's an idea that you can take for free.

Get together a tour box. The head, the Super Symmetry, the B7K Ultra, maybe even the VMTD and Duality. Get a list together of TB members and send it out. Your gear is pegged mostly as being geared towards aggressive sounds, metal players, hard rock, etc. The stuff is way more versatile than that, but I guarantee if you got some of your gear into non-metal/ hard-rock/ aggressive music style players hands (pop, funk, R&B, country, etc.), you'd be able to convert a lot more believers. And those of us that have been yet unable to justify the price of some of the DG gear for fear of it not fitting our style, we could try it for the low cost of shipping the gear onto the next person.

I'll be first on the list.

I don't know that a tour box is really necessary and they aren't hurting for business anyway. Just buy it used and flip it for the same amount if you don't like it. DG stuff sells quick.
Maybe not necessary, but it's a great way to advertise, and also to get players opinions on gear that might not otherwise buy it to try it.

Thanks for the info!
So what's the point of bringing amps to NAMM( I take it that's what is happening?), that do not represent the actual product?
And will there be different versions of this(with more and with fewer features maybe?)?

Unless I misunderstood, thats what I took away from it, that they'll be smaller!! And I don't know except the FX loop will be in the back;)

Presumably, the actual version will sound the same. It's all about building hype. Look at Peavey. They announced the damn MiniMega two years ago, and it only hit shelves a few weeks ago. I doubt that's where Darkglass is going.

With DG having one designer, I wouldn't expect any other amps until this one proves successful, would you?

They need amps to demonstrate all the Darkglass pedals....why use some other companies amps and give them free advertisement?

Agreed on hype but there is plenty of that where DG is concerned anyways. No?
Agreed on Peavey(that's an amp I'd like to try and A/B with the small Glockenklang amps!):)
Yes, probably no more amps until this one is out there and proving it's selling.

unfortunately it isn´t class AB or all tube... maybe a future line of darkglass amps.
IMHO that would be foolish for them. The market has plenty of those kinds of amps, and their R&D to bring something competitive to market would make pricing even more prohibitive. They have pre amps that people love. Grab a chassis and a class D power section, and they have minimal development to do. This amp makes all the sense in the world for them as a company.

As far as "misrepresentation" of his amps, I bet the actual production ones wont be much different, just smaller!! If you seen the gut shots you'd realize that the internal components only take up *less* than a 3rd of *these* enclosure's...

He originally planned on an announcement for *last summer*, but it was delayed for various reasons. So I'm sure Doug (along with myself and others;)) were anxious for this release, but he didn't want to prematurely announce anything until it was 100% certain!!

Another thing, those NAMM demo amps *dont* have cooling fans as they are in a controlled indoor environment but they were used for heat testing! After NAMM the PCP will be modified/redesigned for space and cost efficiency in addition to the cooling fan and FX loop in the back... so I think the demo amps are just to get the news out there, I'm pretty damn sure the actual ones will be much smaller but still look the same with the unibody enclosure!

Edit: I think these pics are "vague" enough that the schematic can't be copied
