Dating websites : yay or nay?

I've been told that marriage is a one night stand that hasn't ended yet.

My wife and I were a hook up. We met while shooting pool. She says that night was her best pool night ever. She whooped me, and I've got some solid pool skills. She had some friends in town and we all went back to her place when the bar closed. We stopped by 7-11 and snagged some oj. Hit my apt and grabbed a bottle of vodka, a case of beer, and my bong. Her friends were all asleep in an hour. She and I stayed up talking until the sun came up. The next day, I went home but left my bong (so I would have a reason to come back ;)). We met on a sunday night. That was 18 years ago, July 28th. Tuesday, we had our first official date. I had to hit my mom up for some money, because I was dead broke. My wife ended up paying for everything. We've been together ever since. We got married in January of 2000.

I haven't used one, but my cousin met her husband through one, and he's a good guy and a great husband, so they can work. I know he feels incredibly lucky to have met my cousin, as he damned well should!

On the other side of the coin, I played music briefly with a guitarist who was bouncing back from a divorce using online dating. His day job is punching code for CapitalOne, the credit card company. He had many hilarious stories about women he dated through the site, but the strangest one was a really attractive younger woman, who seemed very interested in his work. By the third date he figured out she wanted to wrap him up in some kind of credit card scam and figured since he worked on the "inside" he could help her out.

Getting away from her proved somewhat difficult, but once he managed to convince her he wasn't going to turn her in she finally left him alone. He figures she probably didn't use her real name anyway. It actually was somewhat scary as she was very good at stalking him electronically.

So caution is a good idea. Maybe chat online a quite a bit before meeting for that first date, just to make sure of the person's intentions.

My buddy has been on a few sites for a while now, he has gone out with some women however nothing really came of them. It may be because it's mutual however I know he is often quick to shoot himself in the foot as well and is basically just looking for one nighters anyways. He has been telling me to check into them as I have been single for a while now so I did. I have not had much luck but have only been on it for a couple weeks. The dating scene in my age group (20's) around my area is kind of a joke. So far just seems like a lot of damaged women, single mothers, crazies with unreal expectations and judge the crap out of you or simply those who just want free meals and drinks and of course the ego boost which is all expected. You never know what could happen but I am also not expecting much or holding my breath but it's free.

I’ve been using dating sites for some time now, off and on, and have had dates with women like you described quite a bit. I’m not sure if it’s because of the dating site, or that’s just what is out there right now. I’ve met some fantastic women on these sites, don’t get me wrong, either there wasn’t enough of something between us or timing was an issue (I’m a single father, so the kids are number 1 always). The sites that I’ve used have done a good job getting me out there and meeting women, and if I get that far then I think the site is successful. I’m having more of a hard time finding a woman that wants the same things as me, as far as what I get out of the relationship and how far I want it to go, but generally speaking I’ve dated a lot more over the past 5 years then when I was in my 20s.

Anybody who starts an ad with " Love long walks on beaches and watching sunsets" will never get anywhere with me. I hate doing both of those things, especially long walks.

I'll watch a sunset once in awhile....if it's really good......and I've got a Rum and Coke handy.

If I detect "need' I'm outta there....I don't want a needy person.....don't want to have to live up to somebody's expectations.

Personally I like strong women........strong in the sense of say a woman who is an author, writer, painter, lawyer, etc etc.

If the ad says "Looking for Mr.Right'......I'm most likely not that guy......

I'd probably try a dating site if I needed to.......but I'd be playing it by my rules..........
