Dating websites : yay or nay?

I'm married to a girl I met through an online dating website.

Though I had to weed through a LOT of girls, but eventually found her.

Honestly, easily the kindest most compassionate person I have ever known.

People can say whatever they want but online dating is what allowed me to find her. My life has changed drastically for the better since she's into my life.

How would you feel about popping over to the "Explain Your Username" thread?

Damaged ones can be fun to meet - if you're thin-skinned and not needy. I'm very humored by everything in life (I laugh too much for some people), so at the end of the day many of these women were what I call "comedic tragedy". Some were just plain tragic though and not funny at all.

I met more than a few who were sexually assaulted at some point in their lives. One of them ended up driving 2 hours to Rochester to meet some rich man on some mansion row and he locked her in the house and almost raped her. She ran out of gas as she only had one way's worth. She managed to use her phone and call someone. Turns out he wasn't tall brown and handsome...he was old and fat.
I've come across one sexual assault victim before. That wasn't fun. Neither is the "used up" variety (because they're the quickest to write you off).

The "fun" ones were the ones with the "I was engaged and left before I got married", to me anyhow. They were just so ready seeming to start over that it was refreshing to see someone saw potential.

At the beginning of 2008 I had been married almost 14 years, I was a bit of a workaholic, etc... I suffered a major stroke and my wife didn't come to the hospital, talk about your extreme wake up calls.

We separated two weeks after I got out of the hospital. I was pretty unhappy with life at that point. Thankfully, my friends and family were very supportive. (My boss supplied a company apartment and had it outfitted all the way down to sheets and silverware.)

For a while I was a tad bitter. When a love song or a song that had any positive message regarding human interaction came on the radio, I'd change the station.

Eventually I decided to test the waters and enter the dating pool. I was back to work and decided that I would try online dating. I had low expectations and actually had a blast.

I tried a few different sites to see what would work for me and had the most "luck" with "Plenty of fish". I posted a photo of me behind a drum set, I was upfront and honest. I also edited my profile daily, making it fun and funny. I started dating again... a lot.

Eventually I met and began dating three different women regularly. I was honest and told them that I was dating others, no games. I wasn't sure what I was looking for at the beginning. Companionship? A few laughs? But the heart knows. I went on a business trip and really, really missed one of the three. Upon my return I quit seeing the other two. My sweetheart and I have been together six years now. Life is very good.

So...

It can work.

Do you look as much like Mike Ehrmantraut as your avatar makes me think?

Russian brides for a few grand?

My neighbor behind me is Russian, been living in the USA for about 15 years. Great guy and every once in a while he keeps bringing up how I should consider getting a Russian woman into my life. "They're loyal and they'll love you eternal for getting them out of that hell-hole country"....goes on and on. I know he means well but man, I just do NOT want to try and start all over again. Been married once and my marriage contained more drama than an episode of "The Real Housewives of Orange County!!"
