David Bowie succumbs to cancer.

This really was not the first news I needed on a Monday. RIP. 
When I was 7 years old I would listen to Jacko and Prince and everything else that was pretty popular around that time. My father's best friend, who took care of me when my parents were working, put on David Bowie's Let's Dance album and music changed for me forever. We listened to alot of Bowie and his other favourites, but he stuck with me my entire life.
Bowie's music opened up my mind to everything else I'm listening to. Basically without Bowie I wouldn't have picked up a bass. I might have stuck with what's popular at the given time and by that been like everybody else.
Lemmy was and is my adulthood hero, but David is my childhood hero and we don't have alot of them. I was excited over the new album and thought he might tour, but I guess he knew his days are numbered and wanted to leave a last gem for all of his fans, friends, family and everyone that simply loved him.

Scott Weiland, Lemmy, Bowie... Wow. Rock & Roll Heaven is kicking some serious ass now.
God, this sickens me. A wonderfully inventive perverter of trends, creative and clever to the end. He was hugely influential in so many intangible ways. I am deeply saddened by his passing, but especially so because his latest album dropped mere days ago & was already receiving critical acclaim.

Not a bassist, but Tony Visconti and Trevor Bolder were a big influence.

I absolutely love Bowie...I've played many of his songs on gigs. Remember his hard rock band Tin Machine? A true icon, innovator and artist, his music holds a special please in the world.
I love this man's work. I great singer/songwriter by any measure. Wonderful arrangements and production work too. The songs also stood on their own with just vocals and acoustic guitar. I will miss him.
This is so sad. So sad. I can't really express what I'm feeling now. Haven't felt like this since Harrison died.
