i agree with everyone's comments that the particular performance is substance-deficient with an abundance of flash. i doubt the posting is the entire performance, but if it was....

still, there is no doubt that he can do things (musically) that are phenom level --- the cat has chops!

TBH, of the youtube savant-class presenters, i'm always more impressed with charles berthoud.
but having favorites is an individual thing, right?

He's a talented bass player, not so sure about his musicianship.

There's a type of person who uses the term "hater" to shut down opinions they don't like or to express frustration because someone else dares to criticize something. It's a weak tactic.

I don't like his schtick, but he can play and surely inspired a lot of kids to pick up a bass. It's not hard to believe he's never played live. There are more resources online to learn to play and put out your playing/music than ever before.

Considering the fact that he's never played live before and his first gig was that huge, I'd say he did alright. Way better than any of us did at our first gigs.

Remember performing on camera is very different to performing on stage. A lot of film and TV actors don't do well on the theater stage, because film/TV acting is about subtlety (since the cameras pick up everything), but stage performance is about big and sometimes overly dramatic movements that can be "felt" by those viewing from the nosebleed section. A lot of YouTubers are not very good live performers, because with a live performance there is no manicuring the content. So while Davie may have seemed a little stiff on stage and focused more on his bass than the audience, I'd say he did decently.
