Dean....any love for their basses?

Never played a Dean myself, but the Motto looked like a fun toy to kick around on.

I played a DBZ Imperial a few weeks ago. If I had been in my home city (ie not flying), I would have walked out with it - it played and sounded much nicer than the price point would dictate.
Its a huge, thin, surprisingly light body. Like holding onto a flying saucer or something.

I had a Dean Razor for awhile till it got stolen out of the equipment van one night. It was the favorite jazz style bass I ever had. Would buy another in a sec if I could find one.

A few years back I had a Dean Rhapsody HBF. A nice sounding and great playing bass for the money. There were some nice tones in that bass....It moved along as the fretless search continued.

I think that Dean makes rather nice quality instruments for the money. The bang for your buck factor is pretty great if you ask me.
Sure there are better instruments that cost more money, but all the Dean basses I've played were quite serviceable.

I have a Rhapsody 8 string that works great. Granted, I did swap out the pups and preamp, but only after I'd owned it for almost 10 years.

The only dean basses I've played were a 5 string fretless and a 6 string both sounded good but the 6 strings neck was way to wide for me the fretless on the other hand I loved it was the first time I played a fretless and I loved it to bad it belonged to the school I was going to at the time would of bought it in a heart beat if I could

Wow. I love those 5 string Sledgehammers. And now that I know that they're 35" scale, I'm on am mission to find one. Do you know the nut width and string spacing at the bridge?

I hated that bridge so I replaced mine with a Carvin SB bridge with 19mm

I think the Raphsody 12 is a really interesting bass.... How are they tuned? Just octaves, or some other interval?

I had a Dean Edge 6 for a few months. It was on par with some lower-end Ibanezes.OK, but nothing to pine over.

The DBZ Imperial makes me tingle, especially the black five string models that pop up on eBay every now and then. They used to retail for about $800 and now I see them for $299; the listing I saw the other day said "10 available". I can't afford one but if I could, it would be on the way here.

I have a 1985 Dean Hollywood "Z" which is a great bass it is one of my basses that remain in the case until the weather changes. It and my Ripper see no winter gigs Here is a picture shot of me on stage in Studio One in Newark back in the mid 80's fun times

The only dean bass I've ever owned/played is my EAB 5 string. I bought it used off of CL just kinda for fun. I think I paid $80 for it and it's actually a pretty decent player.

I love my $70 quilt top Edge 1. Plays great and I'm always surprised by the fact, people are surprised it's a Dean.

I have come VERY close to pulling the trigger on an Imperial. They are freakin' gorgeous and beautifully made.

I also have lust in my heart for a Dean Stylist "Cabbie" bass...
