Dean Bass Hate?

1) Bass hate is wrong, in any form. You can love some more than others, but why hate? Just say it ain't your cup of tea.

2) After reading through this thread I'm not sure if Dean only makes basses with the right sound for metal with spikes all over them or not - I mean, I think I know who Jeff Berlin is and I don't think his sig bass would have any metal type body shape, and I'd even think that he might endorse a bass that would sound fine in a jazz context. I'm so confused.

Well obviously not all Deans are "Metal" basses. I bought mine to be drop tuned DGCF and it just so happened to be the best deal out there (IMO) for my price range. It came with the most impressive woods/hardware/electronics combination then anything else for the price I was able to pay at the time. I've been real happy with it, and it's not a "metal only" bass, but the metal guys like it too. All the metal bands I've played with have said "cool it's a Dean".

I own two Deans and both are great imo. I have an EAB and a Cabbie. Wouldn't trade or sell either. I was in the market for an acoustic. I tried out a few Ibanez and a Fender or two. Just wasn't feeling them. Saw the EAB online and being nearly $150 cheaper then the other I tried,I decided to take a chance. Glad I did. I been more than happy with it since it arrived. Its held up good to being gigged at least once a month and played constantly.

My Cabbie was bought online as well. I wanted a hollowbody. I got a good deal on it off Ebay. Been more than happy with it. No complaints at all.

Thinking of getting another Dean here in the future.

I've had a few Dean basses. I liked the Hillsboro single, the first bass I owned when I started getting serious, I like the Dean Motto, and I've owned an Exotica with the natural finish...traded it in and just bought this one.

The last one sounded better than my current Jazz basses, my old P bass, my Thunderbird, etc.
Once this one arrives and I put on some tapewounds, I know it will, too.

I (long time back) had to sell my Alembic EVH due to some financial issues and bought a Dean Edge DS ('91) to replace it. The members in my band back then were very happy with the Dean, because it was really punchy and had more 'body' to the sound :) I still have that bass and I use it for endurance and agility practice. I normally play short scale and that gets my fingers spoiled and lazy, the good old Dean keeps me in shape :)
