Dean Bass Hate?

I've never once seen any "hate" for Deans. However the majority of them are built for the entry-level young consumer market mostly, so you won't see a lot of "love" for them from older players and players who have moved up from entry-level gear.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm not saying they are bad at all, just explaining why you don't see more Dean praise around.

I was thinking that, but some of the higher end Deans are really nice & sound pretty good (luckily theyre starting to make USA basses soon). I know my Demonator isn't the most versitile instrument, it wont handel jazz or country well, but if im goin to play either of those, id use a jazz bass.

Im glad though that theres not much hate/flaming (unlike another forum)

I don't care for their look, but that's where the dislike stops really. They make good instruments for more than fair prices, and they are totally metal a la B.C. rich, although I would pick a Dean given the choice.

Dean makes great sounding basses. I own a dean ml metalman 4-string bass and it sounds awesome. especially with a set of dr high beams. I've been giving many compliments on my bass when I gig with my brother's band. many people ask me if I'm playing a dean ml bass. I told them yes I am. it's affordable and it sounded fantastic. my next bass will definitely be a dean edge 5.

i had a dean edge pro 4 and ended up getting rid of it for no other reason than it seemed to be lacking in the bottom end. im assuming thats because the body is basswood? i tried an edge6 bo and the bottom end was just as lacking imo. the construct and electronics were great...although not a big fan of finished/painted necks(NT only). -joep

I have a Dean edge 6 and think it's a great value for the buck. Good craftsmanship, very comfortable, decent sound out of the box, but I wasn't satisfied with the pre-amp(bass, and treble). I replaced it with a EMG BQC control system so I have control of bass, treble and mids with a sweepable mid freq. Now it sounds great and I can dial in a bunch of tones. The bottom end is definitely there and very full.

if i had known the electronics were the problem and not the basswood i never would have gotten rid of them. -joep

All of my friends stay away from Dean because their main market is made of people who buy Dean because of the guitars' "cool" or "metal" looks.

A kid at my school bought a flying-V acoustic guitar. It plays and sounds terrible, and it's even worse plugged into an amp. He's the kind if kid that buys "cool" guitars and doesn't even know how to play. He's also got a solidbody that you could probably run someone through with, which is also a piece of crap.

But, when you steer clear of those cheaper models, they seem to make pretty good stuff for the money.

I bought an edge 6 fretless. looked nice, sounded nice and was pretty inexpensive, but the neck had a small depression at one place. when you fretted there it would buzz like crazy; it couldn't be fixed without re-levellng the whole fingerboard. I took it back to the store and they told me they often have problems with deans.

I absolutely love my Dean Jeff Berlin and just recently picked up a Dean Vendetta 4 string.

Yes, they might be marketed towards younger inexperienced players, but I'd pick it up in a second without hesitation and play it right alongside my American MTD, Warrior, or Fender American.

There's a guitar shop in my area that used to carry Dean's, I played a couple that they had (a few acoustics, a few solid-bodies), I didn't like any of the one's I played, felt like there was something wrong with each one. Not hate, but I'm not a fan.
