Another cool thing about the Edge Pro is that it is probably the only Dean that also has a flame maple back.

I say probably as the Dean catalog info doesn’t show the back of any bass. In fact the catalog description only states basswood body, Flame Maple Top Neck Thru neck made of Maple and Walnut and a rosewood fingerboard though many are quite dark and look like Ebony sometimes.

Here are my two Edge Pro’s

The Brazilia Burst is a 2006 World Factory build

The Tiger Eye is a 2007 World Factory build

@2many, here is the official word from B-Mac.

Thanks

This a 2007 and made at the Un Sung factory in Korea

This appears to still have real Grover tuners. These get canibalized and replaced with no name lookalikes

My two four strings were made at the World factory in Korea

So between this and the other messages I sent you have a bunch of info to post. He can easily get 400 for it based on the shape it appears to be in

Thank you so much for taking the time to relay this information. I appreciate it!
Though I don't know... I would assume that being from the earlier 2000's is good. Don't know what the Un sung factory is, but I assume it is less sought after than the "world factory".
Thanks again.

My Juggernaut arrived today, much faster shipping than I expected. Like Bass Man Stan's, it's an older 2015 model but brand new. Only issue is the large patch of adhesive that rubbed off the foam padding onto the upper bout while it was the sitting in the warehouse all those years.

The output on the Juggernaut is definitely a lot lower than on the Paramount. Otherwise it's a great compliment and should be a joy to play. I think I'll keep it completely stock for a while, including the strings. I have flats on the Paramount (which I love) and it'd be nice to have a bass on hand with rounds.

I think the finish and that pickguard are quite fetching.

With my Juggernaut I ran across a high fret on the G string at the 13th fret. I was wondering how I missed it. I was going to take it to a friend that builds guitars but I remembered a trick he once showed me. I took a rubberized pair of wire snips and carefully gave it a few light taps on the edge of the fret. Solved the problem!

The neck pickup foam was kinda weak so I cut a couple of strips of old mouse pad and put them in the cavity. Nice and springy!

Yeah, I suppose the Juggernaut is worth a fresh set of strings. Although if I'm changing them out I'd be real tempted to put on a set of flatwounds and call it a day.

While I have the strings off I'm going to add some new foam under the neck pickup since the stock foam is definitely weak.

All told I paid $335 for the Paramount and Juggernaut. Not bad for a pair of pretty sweet basses.

Just a suggestion, lebella deep talking stainless flats on the paramount. The classic tone for a P bass and they last forever. I would keep to a nickel coated round on the J bass to keep it full sounding. You can always swap them around and see what that sounds like too. The flats are around $40 and polished very smooth. I have another set (45-105) on the way for a new bass.

Excellent advise on keeping some type of nickel rounds on the Juggernaut. I really want a bass with rounds even if I generally prefer the flats, and the J seem like a good platform for that.

I already have Fender flats on my Paramount, which I like quite a lot, but when (if) they need to be replaced I'll definitely check out the LaBellas.

Hey all! I have just stumbled across a Dean Hollywood Z bass at a local guitar shop and I really wanna buy it, but I haven’t been able to find ANY specs info online anywhere, does anyone know anything about it??

I’m already set on buying it and replacing the pickups with a PJ set of Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders, but I just wanna know what the stock specs are for my own gear geek knowledge...

An actual Dean from the Dean Zelinsky era. There are other people here that have thsese. @rtslinger if you have any info on the electronics that come stock with these it would be appreciated. However, I do have some links and info provided by B-Mac that may be helpful.

So glad I found this thread. I just picked up a 4 string Dean Edge 09 in Classic Black at an estate sale for $60. Looks like it was just hung on a wall and never played. Dusty as he!!, but in good condition.

I know it's the entry-level bass, but I was surprised by how cheap some of it was. The tuning machines were so lose that they almost fell out of the headstock, and the volume and tone control knobs rub against the body. Got them tightened up, and much better now.

Pulled the strings off to really clean all the dust out of everything, and I noticed a gap between the bottom of the neck and the top of the body. Must have been 1/4"-3/8" gap there. Again, I was kinda surprised. Anywho, since I'm still basically a beginner, this will be the bass that I mess around with. My other bass (Squier Vintage Modified J-Bass) is much nicer, and the one that I put more care into.

That being said, I am interested in upgrading the pickup and electronics, and based on what I read earlier in this thread, it looks like Invalid Link Removed would be a good upgrade, correct? I know it's listed for a 5 string, but is that the correct one to upgrade to?

OH! And I almost forgot - do I need a club number? ;)

Welcome. You will be # 210. The only thing I ask is that you post a picture of the bass. That's the usual policy.
As for the Edge 09. This is my area of expertise because I too own a Dean Edge 09, which I have modded extensively. It is my main player. That pickup will work, and I assume, so will anything that is the same size will as well. You'll need to drill new holes for mounting, but that's not a huge deal. Now I was going to do this, but ended up going a different route. Now as well as the electronics, I suggest buying a high mass bridge such as this https://www.amazon.com/Gotoh-Ti-201...-instruments&sprefix=gotoh+bass,mi,187&sr=1-3
https://www.amazon.com/Hipshot-Kick...-instruments&sprefix=Hipshot+Ki,mi,205&sr=1-1
and then buying whatever tuners you want from a reputable company
https://www.amazon.com/Gotoh-Compac...s&qid=1583339054&s=musical-instruments&sr=1-7
https://www.amazon.com/Wilkinson-4P...s&qid=1583339085&s=musical-instruments&sr=1-6
Those tuners tend to start skipping gears and the bridge has little sustain. Now for the electronics. That EMG you selected will probably be a good choice. I however decided to buy a new volume pot, and buy one of these:
https://www.amazon.com/Fender-Treble-Expander-Control-Potentiometer/dp/B0002KZE9A
This was standard on Clapton Stratocasters and is still availible on the Duff McKagan jazz bass special. It gives you extra treble response.
DSCN0797.JPG
Here is my bass post mod. I also did some work on the headstock but that was personal preference. Here's a tone demo I did a few months back.

If I can provide any more information, just ask. And if you go the EMG route, then make a sound demo. I'd love to hear it. The "leader" here (unfortunately absent right now) has like 3 Edge 09's and is going to do the EMG mod eventually.

Thanks! I'll take a few pics when I get home this evening and post them up! Thanks for all the links as well - very helpful. I just put the Hipshot Kickass bridge on my Squier, it made a world of difference, so I'm happy with that. Lots of mods on the list now!

Pics attached. You can see in the last picture the roughness on the end of then neck and the gap between the neck and the body. Is that gap normal with this model? I was kinda surprised to see that.
