Dean Club!!!

Pics attached. You can see in the last picture the roughness on the end of then neck and the gap between the neck and the body. Is that gap normal with this model? I was kinda surprised to see that.

Well, it turns out that this ISN"T a Edge 09. I probably wouldn't have noticed, but B-Mac, the absent leader, notified me that this is in fact a Zone Bass. Here's some catalog pages

Compare the zones lines to the edge 09

The mods however, should still be all the same. As for the neck gap, if the bass intonates properly, that gap isn't an issue

Thanks for that...
Not much new in there, but a bit of history. I remember back when I first got mine, (2002...2nd generation) I had some emails back and forth with stephen jay. I had checked out some of his 12 str playing some where and was amazed by how he was controlling it and the sounds he was getting. (must say, I’ve never gotten close to that)
One thing that is not of mention in the article is the blend knob. All my rhapsodies but for the 12 str have two volume knobs. (even the 8 str) The 12str has one volume, one blend and the 3 band eq.
A tone monster for sure.

And while on subject of 12 string bass...

Here’s an old video I did shortly after I acquired the 12str. Note;
Jamming-between regular rehearsal songs...
12str gets sonically lost in the mix unless guitars are orchestrated to highlight the 12er...
One of a few samples I COULD link to...
Not proud of my performance in any of them...

But there you go. Lately I have been using the 12str a lot in conjunction with some old stomp boxes, analog delay and a compressor to curtail my sound in a format i'm experimenting with, with a friend where we are doing ambient spacey pieces. I have been using all my basses in that format as well as trying to control the korg, while my friend uses his looper and multi effects. It’s been rewarding, but not for those who favor conventional pop music.
Another old, totally embarrassing performance for so many reasons...
I'll let you pick it apart, (or avoid it).

Cool jam! Yeah, it's hard to work 8 and 12 string basses into established music. Most of the time when you see them, they serve their own purpose. But they are cool nonetheless.

One other question - can you tell when it was made by the serial number?
Not sure with Dean. I know Yamaha and a few other companies recycle serial #'s, and if Dean does, that'll make pinning down when it was made more difficult. I got my Yamaha BB300 used from a friend of my dad. I was curious the build date, so I contacted Yamaha. If I remember correctly, they told me it was built around '85-'86.

My suggestion would be to contact Dean directly with the model and serial # and see what they say.
