Dean Club!!!

Such an unbelievable deal!

Especially after scoring a $40 Peavey Millennium Just a month before that. My wife had made me promise to stop buying guitars and basses (the 10A was #27) but I mean... how could I not?

Which Dean acoustic electric is that next to it with all the stickers? There’s no dot markers so I’m guessing it’s the EAB lined fretless?

You are correct. It is the EAB. I got it for $100 right before my first tour. I wanted to make sure I had one in case any acoustic appearances popped up. That thing has been from one coast to another in a van with no case almost entirely unscathed. I play it almost every day.

There’s a few here that gig with the EAB
@Leftka and @McG and a few others I can’t think of at the moment.

@Zetabass is another who plays the big EAB (with tapes)

Additionally, the following either own or used to own the Dean EAB in a few different versions or the same as yours including the 'Playmate' version.

EAB
@BishopHastur
@McDean
@DA_ZAR
@Amara
@zuokinis
@BassShifter21
@GretschWretch

EAB Fretless
@lowendfriend

EABC
@B-Mac (me)
@Jason Garrett
@ProgRocker
@jd56hawk
@Spector_Ray

EABC5
@noodler

So you're in good company

I don't think very many Improvs were built. No idea what year mine were built, but their serial #'s were only 9 digits apart. Sold the purple one last year, still have the Honeyburst. Amazing basses that can be had for very reasonable money (if you can actually find one for sale).

Czech made S/N started with either a 7, 8 or 9 for '97, '98 and '99

I have a question for all u fellow Dean owners..
What's going on with DOA and it's forums? I own 2 Deans (a Rhapsody 12 string and an EABC5) and joined the DOA back when I purchased my Rhapsody. Of course, that was the last year they had any gatherings in Tampa (I live 30 mins away) and I haven't received any newsletters, notifications, anything DOA related. The DOA forum is rarely updated. Customer service is great..I had a concern about my EAB and contacted Dean by email..got a response straight away. I really wanted to get involved in some of the DOA events in Tampa..just doesn't seem to be anything happening on that front.
I believe they no longer use that and instead have a DOA forum on Facebook. I do not use Facebook so I can't elborate, but I'm pretty sure this is why.

My razor five string is set up EADGC and oh-boy, do I love it that way!
Sometimes I get some mental brain hiccups going between my other fivers set up with low B. Not to mention jumping to the eight and the twelve string basses. The razor’s shape is such that I have a very good time slinging it around when I am really “feeling it”.

It does sound like it was going to be a money pit of sorts. Don’t blame ya. Sure was pretty though...
I almost had the cherry impulse on the nt back in the day.

I was not willing to give up on my favorite rhapsody. I bought a whole guitar just for a neck since they were no longer available when that drunk guy fell over on the guitar rack. They offered to repair this...
I couldn’t have that!View attachment 3622645
Eeeek! :eek: I would have cried my eyes out!:crying::crying:

OK , I'll play too ..This 2003 ? cranberry Razor NT (Korea: serial E03) arrived today , Mine has some a few random frets that buzz , Overall it is very clean with just some normal minor surface playing scratches , Looks great but just not yet sure if it's a keeper for me , I'll set it up and see if it grows on me and if not , I'll offer it up ? This was just another total impulse buy after reading about these basses .. View attachment 3617845 View attachment 3617847 View attachment 3617848 View attachment 3617849

Yes, previously I had the impression that yuo have a few basses already. And noted your smarts when it comes to knowing what works, what you like. What I was getting at in my comment was the shape. I had been used to fenders and rhapsodies. The razor was a noticable slim body with which to sling around. When I play, I do a lot of moving around and there was a particular time when I was impressed with the sleek razor. So that always stuck with me. My 4 string is just right set up right and new old stock. Happy with that. My 5 string was set up by a tech, but not to my liking, so I lowered the action. Neither is a fret buzzer. I've set the 5er to EADGC and that's working well.
I like it em to have sold of my amber rhapsody Q4...

Custom Rhapsody record player! Cool!

I picked up this today. I think it 90's 6 string Dean Edge 6 string. It has passive EMG-HZ pickups and a volume/tone/pickup selector switch. Electronics work fine. The frets may need a slight dressing but look good. Tuners are functioning. A few scratches on the back and that is all. Both truss rods work but the saddles are floored because the bridge has bent over time. I found a drop in replacement at ALL PARTS for $30.

I attached a picture of the bass.

So far I picked it up for $199 and possibly $30 more for the bridge. I do have the option to return it. I just want to get some more information on it. Body and fret-boards mostly.

Thanks
Late 90's

Elliot Rubinson bought dean from Tropical music in '97

Please provide a pic of the back of the headstock. :)

I'm still looking at a dean stylist hollow body. Does anyone out there have one or played one enough to form a opinion. Not much info out there on this bass.
Very much a Gretsch type vibe.

The first round of Stylist had low output pups which some people didn't care for and replaced with TV Jones Thundertrons and similar. When the Stylist came back in 2014 (Cabbie only) this was no longer the case and the pups had a higher output.

@mojomike001
@Avezzano
@RobinG
@2saddleslab

All have one and are all club members here.

While I'm at it... my first new bass, a Dean 5 string bought in '92(pic is from... '99, maybe?). Defretting went well, but a totally unnecessary refinishing effort ended it. RIP.

That's an early 90's Dean from the 'Tropical Music' era before Elliot Rubinson bought Dean in '97. It is a 'DB' series model, but which model I'm not sure of.

NBD and Number please!

I found this pristine, never gigged, never really played early Dean Jeff Berlin (European Custom) in Transparent Amber. I think someone bought it, put it in a case, and never played it. The satin finish on the neck is still satin (no gloss from wear), the pickups have no "smoothing" from finger wear, all of the hardware has a patina and the finish is a flawless gloss. I've seen more worn looking basses hanging new on the rack at GC! It does have one "incorrect" knob - perhaps the original fell off and was lost, and was replaced with whatever fit on the post, idk.

The serial number is 94693. The headstock has the *very* slight tilt back, and the tuners are offset. The "Dean" logo is squarely between the tuners, so I'm guessing this is somewhere between '99 and '01. Can any experts confirm?
