Dean Club!!!

Hey @B-Mac , do you know the retail price of the 1999 Euro/Czech Dean Jeff Berlin basses? Mine's a standard Alder body in Amber finish. I know the Palaedium's retailed for $799, which is about $1500 now adays.

thanks!
@Darth_Linux,
Unfortunately I only have a Price list that goes back to 2002. The Standard and Exotic are shown with a $400 price difference. The Czech Edge models are also listed:
The Custom, Select and Improv are all listed as well as the Jeff Berlin. These are still Czech models
However, the list does not indicate MSRP and 'Street Price' like other Dean Price Lists often do.
from 2002 Dean Price List.jpg

These are all Made in Czech Republic
JB Standard
JB Exotic
Custom is the Bolt-on
Select is the Neck Thru with black knobs
Improv is the Neck Thru with gold hardware and the EMG-CS pups

You can see they're more expensive than the Asian Edge basses.

Dean seems to be using a lot of the Fishman Fluence pickups. Anyone here familiar with Fishman Fluence Pickups?

Looks like @NotBassless prototype is now an actual type. :)

It surely does! It’s probably one of the best basses I’ve ever owned.

Pretty Dead Here. DOA is coming up. I'm probably not going.
Back in November I picked this up.

2010 Dean USA Motto.

I was able to order a replacement pickguard from Dean since it is a USA model. The exisitng pickguard was pretty scratched up from lots of play.

I used my Dean "JB" for the bass solo - enjoy!

@Darth_Linux ,
I can’t seem to send you a PM so I’m posting this even though it’s not technically Dean oriented.
Would you know what correct Peavey case goes with the Paladium?
I bought the Purple one that was on Reverb and I’d like to get the correct case for it.

Thanks for any info you can share.

I'm so sorry, I have no idea what hard shell case would have gone with the Palaedium. I'm guessing it would be that same as what came with the Rudy Sarzo, and the other high-end models of the time, but that's just my best guess. Good luck!

That looks awesome, but why the hell is it 400 dollars more than the black and white Hillsboro selects?
I honestly cannot see how the select could be a better bass than my gold Eric Bass Hillsboro, basically the same specs with an extra pickup.

Does seem like a steep difference, doesn’t it? Let’s look at some differences from the black/white HB Select:
  • Graph tech nut vs plastic nut
  • Abalone dot fb inlays vs pearloid dot fb inlays
  • Roasted maple neck vs maple neck
  • Roasted maple fb vs ebony fb
  • Two Fishman Fluence pups vs Two Asian DMT pups
Since it’s a natural finish they have to use better looking swamp ash vs the painted swamp ash

Electronics aren’t quite clear vol w/ 3 way switch and stacked tone w/ 3 way switch. Passive? The black and white models are 3 way active. Maybe @NotBassless can help out and explain the controls?

So, there are a few improvements, but I’m not sure they’re $400 worth of improvements over the black and white Hillsboro Select models. I’ve yet to play any of these three and wonder how different they may feel as they’re made in Indonesia rather than Korea and/or China.

Off the top of my head I can’t recall if the Gold Eric Bass Signature bass was Ash, Swamp Ash or Alder. I’ll have to check my reference material.

[edit]

Dean Eric Bass Signature Hillsboro Metallic Gold Bass Specs:

  • Swamp Ash Top / Body
  • 34” Scale
  • Bolt-On Maple C Neck
  • Rosewood Fingerboard
  • Pearl Block Inlays
  • Die Cast Tuners
  • Black Hardware
  • ABM Bridge
  • One Asian DMT Design Single Humbucker Pickup
  • Active 3 Band EQ
  • Finishes: Metallic Gold
So the EB Gold Hillsboro is Swamp Ash, but with Asian made DMT pups & generic tuners, but with those awesome looking Pearl Block Inlays. In 2012 this was $549, which I’m pretty sure was street price and not the MSRP.

PTE Passive Tone Enhancer

How is it and how difficult was it to install it?
I actually have this in my Palaedium, not my Dean. It was relatively easy to install, and I absolutely love it. Here's the video showing the installation -

Oooops! Guess I read the comment wrong, duh!?! :woot:
But then, you could put it in any passive bass if there was room for it.
Thanks for posting the vid.
I mentioned this pte in the Glarry club too.

Just picked up another Paramount. Figured I should have a P bass with rounds as well as one with flats. This one is a 2016 sunburst with maple fretboard. I really wanted another red with maple but couldn't find one for a good price. In the end it's probably good to have a little variety.

All told it was $300 including a no-name hard shell case and shipping. (Looking at the listing photos I'd guess it's the same store and deal as barclaybass's Juggernaut.) The listing claimed it was used in very good condition, but it's pristine and I wouldn't be surprised if it was NOS.

I haven't had much time to play it yet but so far I'm very happy with it. The stock rounds definitely have that zing I was looking for. This will probably become my go-to player for my current band. The red with flats will continue to be my personal favorite for at-home noodling.

Here's my little Dean family: sunburst and maple Paramount with rounds; red and maple Paramount with flats; sunburst and rosewood Juggernaut with rounds.
