Dean Club!!!

Here is a full page from the separate 2008 catalog which is not the same as the 2007-2008 catalog:
DeanGuitars2008 36.jpg

Again it shows the BA II Bridge, which I agree conflicts with the description. Note the Hardtail next to it has the Monolithic Bridge. I have the 4 string version of this Dean Edge Pro Tiger Eye | Miami Vintage Guitars
and it is also very nice and similar to the Edge Pro. Also notice Dean's use of their own 'Die-Cast' Bridge. It is very similar to the B A II except that it only has 4 corner screws. It would be interesting to find out when they switched to the EMGHZ pups. I'd really like to get the Edge Q4B and I am currently looking at a Trans Amber Vendetta Bass which is actually NOS-Open Box in awesome shape.

Here is a 2008 on Reverb. Note that the pups are different than the usual DMT pups. 3 screws and fatter than the DMT pups. So based on this, the Edge Pro so far came with 3 different pups. My Hardtail

I think the Edge Pro is one of the best kept secrets out there for a quality made bass. The features it has is just a bit surprising compared to other basses in the same price range or even higher.

Here is an interesting Dean Edge Variant. Pretty much an Edge 1 and Passive with a flame maple top and an Alder Body rather than Basswood. A lot of earlier Dean Edges had the Alder rather than the Basswood. Some web pix of Chuck Goff with this bass show what looks like an Edge 4 variant with two soap bars as well as another Edge 4 variant with P/J pups and not sure if Passive or Active. Not that I am a fan of modern country music, but he played with Toby Keith for 25 years. He died in a car crash in February 2013. Dean only made this in 2012 and possibly 2013 also. I'd like to at least try one because of the more resonant Alder body. Note that this is a 5 string bass with a wider neck (6 string spacing) and Ebony rather than rosewood fingerboard. Picture shows a brass nut and matching flame maple headstock and feather fret marker inlays and 24 frets.

Thanks for invite from B-Mac.

Here's my Dean Exotica AEB:

Here's the thread where I talk about it: NBD - Dean Exotica AEB

I was set to play this at church on the 28th but....I'll be at NAMM!

And I'd love to join this club. What's my number?
So, after looking at your avatar and you going to NAMM I figured out (maybe I'm a bit slow) that you are pictured with Tony Puleo a bassist from the Boston area. Do you know him personally?

And I have to ask....here it comes....did you try those strings yet? :hyper:

I met Tony at NAMM last year, and he invited me to hang with him this year. So, I kinda know him personally. We stay in contact, and I'll probably hang out with him at NAMM next year. I met a lot of cool people through him. He's endorsed by GHS (and I met Jon Moody, too).

I have the strings. I'll probably get them onto the Dean next week. I will definitely be posting in here when I do.

Cool!

Hey, folks. Anyone checked out new Dean Edge basses? I wonder just how good/bad are they. More specifically talking about Dean Edge 2
Well, we've had some folks check out the Paramount and some folks checked out the Hillsboro and even a fluorescent yellow zone bass all with good reviews, but I can't recall anyone checking out or purchasing a new(er) Dean Edge 2. Hopefully someone will chime in who has at least tried one out.

I'd love to get a Zone but the yellows are hard to find and the pink/green are just a bit hard on my eyes.. Lol

I have seen one in person, but didn't really get to play with it because I was way more interested in the Silverburst Edge 3 that the local shop had hanging. And I did spend some time playing that one.

I found the Edge 3 to be really articulate, punchy and the pickups have a pretty high output. The quality was superb and of course the balance was great with a nice slim neck. I actually left from there wanting that bass. Matter of fact I liked it so much that I am actually looking into purchasing all 3 colors either by May or June.

I figure I may be able to get a good deal by offering to buy the 3 at one time from some shop online looking to make a quick deal. If not, I'm still buying all 3 anyway as I just can't seem to pick which one I like the best. The Purple and the Green look awesome in pictures and video and the Silverburst in person is just flat out eye catching.drool

Is there a big difference spec wise beteeen the Edge 2 and 3 other than paint job?

EDIT: I looked a bit closer, 3 is active, 2 is passive. About the only difference I see at a glance. Does make a difference though.

Yes
E2 V/V/T/T
E3 V/V/B/M/T
Active basses have more range usually

Also, both the E2 and E3 have the exposed pole MM style pups which make it sound different than any of the other Edge basses. I have similar pups (single) on my Sledgehammer bass.

Another Dean fan, here. Always a good bang/buck ratio from Dean. I like that they offer something for everybody, from entry level stuff to more sophisto stuff. If you look hard enough there are some sleepers out there. Like the Edge Improv. They're rare as hens teeth, but the uber-high build quality is worth keeping an eye peeled for one. Hidden gem status IMO.

If your 5 string G.A.S. overtakes the P-Bass G.A.S. I recommend you check this out.
Dean Club!!!
This is one of the Czech made Deans and they are really sweet. I have some info on them somewhere and a club member here I believe owns 3 of them. GC has this listed as an Edge 5. It isn't...it is an Edge Improv 5. If this were a 4 string I'd jump on it like white on rice or stink on #$%@

Bradworld has a few of these in 4 string versions. Dean Club!!!
I haven't seen him here and from his profile it doesn't look like he visits TB any longer. He'd be a good resource for opinions on this bass.

I grabbed this one yesterday, and it's sitting here as we speak. I've been on a Spector kick recently, with a Legend 5 neck-thru and a Rebop 5 DLX, both of which made me gas for a Euro 5. Doing a little research, the Dean is essentially the same thing, but at about half the price or less. I tweaked it to my liking, and I LOVE this thing. It's labeled as a European Custom Select, but has all the features of an Improv, minus the color. I assume there was a transition period of some kind? I've seen other Dean Euros that have black hardware, and others that are bolt-ons (their version of a Rebop?).

Anyway, I get to gig her tonight, and I'm more excited about it than the Ibby SRMS805 I bought new earlier this week!

Also, is the preamp on these EMG? There are no markings of any kind, but it has the two dip switches that control the treble frequency, like on EMG pres. There's a circuit board on the bass pot, and the treble pot has flying leads that connect to the same board.

I'm considering swapping guts between this and my Rebop (EMG 40P5X and 40DCX, SNC 3-band Haz clone preamp) to try and replicate the classic Spector tone, like Queensryche, on a 5.

Nice one, there. 'Grats.

Apparently, there were slightly different versions of the Czech Deans. This one below is labeled European Custom Select, but it has EMG HZ pickups, a thin veneer maple top, non-Schaller tuners. It's a neck-thru build, but I know for sure there are bolt-on ones that are otherwise identical. Note that the one below has stringers that are not visible from the front.

Pretty sure the pre-amps are EMG.

Yeah, this reminds me of the whole US Peavey Millennium line... high quality, only made for a few years, very little info to find anywhere. What is out there isn't the full spectrum of what they produced, as there are plenty of oddball color/ hardware/ pickup configs that were never officially listed.

This bottom one is mislabeled and should be Edge Select 4 instead of Edge Select 5 as it obviously only has 4 strings

These are all the European EDGES that I have info on

You got yourself a really beautiful bass. Did it compare to the $399 GC used price posted above?

I'd really like a 4 string version of the one you just got.

Please keep us up to date.

I hope some of the above info helps. I have no years for these, but they have to be around '98 - '99 based on the headstock. Can you post a pic of the back of the headstock?

Didn't you have the Hammer 10 string?
