Dean Club!!!

So, it's been over 2 months now since you posted this. Is the honeymoon over or are you still feeling the love for this Paramount Bass. Are you gigging with it? What are the reactions to it if any? I really do like that maple fret board on this rather than the rosewood fret board

I still love the Paramount. It's the first one I go to grab, and it's definitely my lightest bass. Yes, gigging with it. It's my standard tuned bass. I used my LTD for my down-tuned. If you can find one at the price point I found mine, I say grab it.

So my wife is limiting me to 200$ for a used Dean New probably isn't an option at that price. Tons of used in that range, people just don't get the quality of Dean basses. What would you suggest? I'm fine with 4 or 5 strings. Active or passive. Never owned an active instrument but more than willing to give it a go. If you're wondering what genres I usually stick to.. Rock? Pretty much all sorts of Rock, Country included. I'm just not super informed on Dean basses, but I definitely enjoyed my Edge 01, albeit I was young and treated it like crap.

I'm kind of avoiding J Bass Type. I have a beautiful custom made Jazz bass I bought in February. I'm sure I can convince her of 250.. She might make me work some overtime too.. Haha.

Looking at that Hillsboro single on GC. Says used in excellent condition but there is the big ol' chip next to where the neck fits into the body. At least that's what it looks like from the pictures.

Never tried a Pro 5 but my Pro 4 is still my favorite bass after owning it over a year now. I test out other basses when I visit music stores but they just don't feel as good, even ones that cost several times more.

Btw. My Pro 4 is a 2006 model and came stock with a badass bridge, but I've seen other 06's for sale that have the bridge that is used on current models, the monolithic. Was the BA only used for a short time? What year did the Edge Pro series debut?

I only have catalogs that go back to 2007 so I can't answer that. My Edge Pro 4 is also an '06, has the BA II Bridge, Neck Thru, Active (B/M/T), Brass nut and DMT pups. I believe they initially had EMGHZ pups but I may be mistaken?
Here's a pic of mine taken by the seller and a catalog cut from 2007-2008 catalog.

This is from the 2007-2008 catalog and does not specify the BA II Bridge, buy it sure looks like one

What got me into the Edge Pro was Chas Cronk from Strawbs. I noticed he plays one of these as well as an older Fender Precision Bass. Chas Cronk

I was lucky with this. No issues whatsoever and I made an offer of $250 including the shipping. It did not come with a gig bag or case.

I have a BA II bridge on my custom jazz bass, absolutely love it.

Nice, yours is the exact same as mine except for the color, mine is transparent amber.

I've never seen one older than 2006 so I'm guessing that is the first year of manufacturing. It seems at some point in 06 they switched to a different bridge type and also moved the Dean logo on the headstock from being in-between the tuning pegs to being on top. Here is another 2006 Edge Pro 4 for sale on a German website, same color as mine but with the new logo and bridge. Dean Edge Pro 4 Bass zu verkaufen. The SN starts with an '06' but has 6 additional numbers after it, whereas mine is '06' followed by 4 numbers.

So it seems like on the initial run all the Edge Pro's had a BA II bridge but then they switched the same year to a monolithic bridge which they've had ever since. Be interesting to know why. Maybe the BA's were cost prohibitive. I mean how many other $600 basses give you neck-thru construction, a BA-II bridge, brass nut, and grover tuners.

I am thinking because this is in the German market that maybe that may be a little different even though it is made in Korea. I am saying that as that bass is not the same as the one in the 2007-2008 catalog above.
It is also not the same as the one here from the 2009 catalog. They were using that monolithic bridge on the Hardtail and the Cadillac. The 2006 from Germany may have been at the end of the model year when they made the switch to the different headstock, but that monolithic bridge wasn't on the pro until later than that. I am not using the computer that has my other catalogs so I can add that info tomorrow.
Here's the one shown in the 2009 catalog:

The other thing is that Bad Ass had major supply problems and could not keep up with demand, not just for Dean, but for all the other manufacturers that were using them.

Here's the Edge Pro in the 2014 catalog that does have the monolithic bridge.

I'm not sure how much I'd trust the catalog photos. I've noticed on Dean's on website them showing different specs in the pictures vs how it is described. In both of those early catalog photos you posted it clearly shows a BA II bridge but the description is "monolithic quick change system".

Here is an 08 with the mono bridge. Link Removed

Looks like I was wrong about the year they started, here is one on Reverb with an 05xxxx SN. Dean Edge Pro 4 Flame Top with Case | Darrell's Vintage Stuff

I definitely missed out on the second one.. 165$ + shipping for a Pro. Been searching for a used and they usually run 400-500$, some drop as low as 300.
