Dean Club!!!

I would just take a moment and thank everyone for making this a fun and active club. There were a few times when this club almost fizzled out, but someone would take over and issue numbers when the original poster of the club was no longer around or 'Deanified' or a previous 'taker-overer' was in the same situation. There has been a lot of info on here and I'd really like to keep it going, but I can't take credit. It is you active members who make it viable and people see the activity when they log into TB and see the most recent posts listed and there is Dean Club!!! up front and center on many occasions.

Thanks to all members past and present Deanified and Deanless for making this a fun, active and informative club.

Please spread the word.

I own a Dean, and I really like it, but I think the hardware on this bass is crap. But I liked it too much to trash it, since the neck and pickups were really really good. I put new tuners on it, and I looking into getting some gold saddles and knobs, to try to get that faux Aria Black n' Gold feel. Also, I would like to become part of the Dean club. Even though this bass had issues, I like Dean basses and guitars, and they are one of my favorite brands(except for jackson, but they don't make left handed concert basses. Still holding out for that vintage 80's charvel concert bass.) View attachment 3016219
So are those gold tuners Wilkinson tuners? I think a gold Bad Ass II Bridge would look great on that.

I wish they were a good brand like that, but they are Usany by Gusnillo tuners. I wanted to buy hipshot, but the set I wanted, which actually would have been like the original stock ones on the Dean Edge 09, cost too much. I was still going to buy matching ones from a no name company, but they all had bad reviews. I decided to by p/j bass tuners, because of the open back and larger size gears(since the reason the old tuners went bad was because the gear teeth fell off). I also picked gold, because I thought black and gold would look cool, kind of like an aria sb or something. I do like the badass bridge that you suggested, but I might not be able to get that. I might just buy gold saddles, but who knows? The bridge is fine as of right now, but I think the gold would match the tuners better. It all depends on money, which can be tight at times.

I have a Sledgehammer 4 string and one of my Tuners fell apart. They were supposed to be Grover Tuners and a previous owner put on no name tuners.
I was able to get Grover replacement tuners at a decent price from here:

I was skeptical at first but after quite a few email conversations and paying with Paypal I made the purchase and was quite satisfied. I paid around $45 total which included shipping. Package took a while to get here from Indonesia.

@Ric5 That is exactly the bass I have. I'll have to check the serial number tonight and see how close the bass' are apart. I bought mine in Casper, WY on vacation from Yellowstone National Park. I found it in a little music shop and never seen a or heard of a 10 string until then. And then I had to buy it!!! :hyper:

Welcome to the club! Your 10 string hammer is a beast!!! Looks awesome.
It is funny to learn songs on it. After learning the song using the 10 string, the 5 string is super easy to play!

Cleaned her up a bit, and put some new D'addario strings on, she's amazing except for a horrid buzz on the 1st fret E-string. I believe the nut slot was cut way to deep. Will be taking to my tech this weekend.
Aphex?

May try heavier gauge strings before taking to tech to replace nut.

The strings are supposed to be 0.045 to 0.105 per Dean website.

Maybe your E string isn't the right string or as you said the slot was filed too far by the PO. Is the buzz happening at the 'F' fret only?

Hope it all gets sorted out for you.

Nice grain pattern!

That is a possibility, I am playing .045-.100. I will have to look into heavier strings, and yes the worst of it is at the F fret, and well as some around the 13-15th fret
