Dean Club!!!

I put some material under the E String to raise it a bit and it remove the buzz either, I woulda thought that could have made up for the slightly thinner string. Could be uneven frets?
Could be. Could also be weather changes. What is the temp and humidity like where you are? Might want to wait until the bass gets settled in a controlled environment like a house rather than shipping box?

Cleaned her up a bit, and put some new D'addario strings on, she's amazing except for a horrid buzz on the 1st fret E-string. I believe the nut slot was cut way to deep. Will be taking to my tech this weekend.
This is probably one of the nicest acoustic basses that I have seen, at least from dean, if not in general. I hope your buzzing issues get sorted out. Once it does, that bass will probably be pretty great.

Oh I'll get it sorted out, I'm not giving up :) And I agree, this bass is beautiful, I'm glad I finally was able to pull the trigger on one.

Bass was sitting in the box inside my apartment for 4-5 hours before I opened it. Shipped from MA to ND. I'll give it some time though. I'm pretty excited, the general play-ability of this bass is amazing.

There's a few members here that have them, including yours truly. ;)
@jd56hawk has a blue one as so does @armyadarkness
@wintremute has a black trans one that also has binding along the neck like the rest of the body.

Took her into the local tech. They do neck adjustments free. A few minutes later and she's not buzzing, at all!! But, action is higher, so we shall see how it plays now
Sounds like they just adjusted the truss rod. If the slot for the 'E' string really is filed too far then a nut replacement is the way to go if you want to stop the buzz at the 'F' fret and have a lower action down closer to the higher register frets and a neck with almost no bow.

I just noticed that you did state that you replaced the strings. Did the old set of strings do the same thing? It could be gauge difference if your new strings are thinner, especially the 'E'.

I hope this works out for you. One of the nicest ABGs out there.

I think it looks pretty cool. People say it only sounds good with blues, but I would be interested to try it for other stuff. Just wanted some opinions, since I don't have one and i'm not even sure if i'll buy one.
@Tejas Thumper who is a member here was looking for one a while back. Not sure if he ever got one though. Might want to check with him. He hasn't been here in a while.
I've been looking for a good deal on a used one. Problem is no one seems to want to sell the one they have.

Hi, all. B-Mac said I should pay this club a visit. :) I've got a 2004 Dean Performer Koa on its way to my house. Should be here Tuesday. It looks simply gorgeous in the pictures and the store I purchased it from says that the neck and the action are great. I hope so. I'm excited to get it! Fishman Classic 4 preamp. 32" scale about to be strung with black nylon-coated strings. It looks to be a nice Korean model that listed for about $750 new. I'm hoping it will be a nice compliment to my Takamine 34" with phosphor bronze strings. I like variety!

Well, I did it...I just dropped some coin on a used Black Sparkle Stylist. Was watching this on reverb and flebay for 3 months. Was ended on fleabay so I figured I'd make an offer on Reverb. Didn't think I'd get it and 6 hours later....viola...accepted my offer! Looks like decent shape, but the bridge and tailpiece have oxidized so I'll either be polishing them or replacing them. Already found what appear to be exact replacement parts on aliexpress. Was thinking of toying with black chrome replacement parts, but that style might be harder to find, but I think it would look cool. This model also has the 6 pole piece humbuckers so I might be changing those too for real bass (4 pole piece) humbuckers

Here's a pic from the seller.

sdgrfan,

Welcome to Dean Club!!!

Thanks, B-Mac. I have high hopes for my Dean. As I posted elsewhere, I have a Takamine that, while ok on action, cannot really be lowered in order for me to do finger-style. I'm hoping this Dean will allow me really low action to pursue that particular option with my ABG. We'll see. *crosses fingers*

That thing is a beauty! If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for it?

That's a pretty nice bass! I have considered buying one of those, but even though they look amazing, they don't really fit my musical style.(Neither does a clarinet, but I own one of those....)
