Dean Club!!!

Thanks for the responses and the club number. I put the Fender 9050Ls on this weekend and my initial impression is favorable. I'll let them break in a bit before passing final judgement. I have D'Addario Chromes on an older Squier P bass so it'll be fun to compare them.

I'm still a little concerned that the tuners on the Paramount are being pulled towards the bridge by the strings, but I suppose it's normal given the tension. Attached is a photo of my headstock with the new strings.

Seems like the Fender flats are a little higher tension than the stock rounds so I'll probably make a few tweaks to the set up once I've played it for a while. It's definitely not unplayable as is, but I could make it a little easier on the fingers.

My Paramount does the same thing.

Does anyone own or have any opinions on the Dean Edge 6 string?

I am looking for a 6 string that has better access to the higher frets than my current 6er and this has popped up for 350€ ($385).

Dean has a brand new passive 6 string the sells for less than $300 new that I’ve been curious about.

Dean Edge 1 6 String Vintage Mahogany
Dean Edge 1 6 String Vintage Mahogany | Wire Meets Wood

Doesn’t have quite the same access though

I haven't seen that one in the EU yet but I'm sure it will be at least 100 more. Also, used instruments are a lot more expensive here, so the one I posted would probably be the equivalent of $250.

I'm actually really liking the look of the blue one, shame it's a little too far to go and check it out (500 mile round trip).

500 miles!! That sure is a long way to go to check out!

I have it and quite honestly don't play it with any regularity. I was interested in a 6 string and it seemed to have the looks that I liked since at the time the other possible choice would have been the Ibanez BTB - however the cost being the ultimate decider at the time.

The spacing is VERY tight on the bass - I've measured it several times and it really looks to be at 15mm spacing on it. Maybe a light tough and a ramp might help, but this is too tight for me. I've also compared the nut width to the Mahogany Dean 6 that B-Mac just brought up and the Q6 is still thinner by about a 1/16". Bathroom scale says about 9 pounds (8.8-9). I do use a 3" strap on it so doesn't seem that heavy. Again, thanks to B-Mac, he posted the stats on this bass when I joined the group from the 2012 Dean flyers - it is 35" scale.

Looks - she's a definite 10. Actual play - your mileage may vary, maybe a pick player may find it to their liking more. Does sound good though and does have a solid B, deep and resounding and not floppy with the 35" scale. I assume that this might not be the glowing review you wanted, but again it may just be me since I think I would have been more comfortable with a bass with 17mm at least...

Lastly, brand new in 2012 I believe it cost $549.00 US. I don't know if it was that price before or after discounting as I remember that GC had a deal on it at the time.

Thank you for taking the time to share @Shaggai , it is much appreciated.

My current 6er has 16mm spacing which I have grown used to (although I thought I never would) but I certainly don't think I could go any smaller.

I agree that the bass looks stunning but I would rather play it than look at it ;)

I assume that this might not be the glowing review you wanted

This is actually the exact review I wanted, someone with first hand experience of the bass and who is honest, not just praising a bass because they own it.

Thanks again!

Jimbo, do you still have Fender Flatwounds on your Paramount and do you still like the combo? I picked up a used Paramount a few months ago and am contemplating putting on a set of 9050Ls. Curious how the tension compares with the stock D'Addario rounds and if I'd have to make any serious adjustment to the truss rod.

I was also wondering if other Paramount owners have noticed the tuning pegs sightly pulling away from the headstock due to string tension. B-Mac's photo from another thread clearly shows a gap between the upper edge of the peg's trim ring and the headstock:

I just want to make sure this is a cosmetic issue and that I won't hurt anything by installing flatwounds on my Paramount.

I suppose I should join the club while I'm here! Proof of Dean ownership:

I'm still using them, they work great! didn't have any tension issues or have to make any major adjustments. Even though the E string is a .100 it works great for standard and Drop D tunings. Sorry for taking so long to respond! I haven't been on in a while.

Getting my Paramount with the new bone nut back today, looking forward to it.

Also, any one tried this puppy out? I play in an Americana band and have been thinking about messing around with an EUB.

Been interested in one of these for quite sometime, but looking for used. Only problem is I never see any for sale which tells me people are holding onto them. I have seen the less expensive Pace bass which sort of stands on a tripod type stand and most reviews on that aren’t all that good. Hope someone can help.

I realize you're in Spain, but here are a few on 'Regurge' for some comparison

Dean 6 String Electric Bass Red | Mountain Music

DEAN Edge 6 String Bass Guitar - Black

Dean Edge 6 Red Quilt Maple EMGs

The Edge 6 Q comes with the EMG HZ pups and the Edge 6 comes with DMT pups

You'll also notice different S/N starting with different letters.

Dean Imports

US - Un Sung Korea
Y - Yoojin China
E - World Korea
next 2 digits are the year made followed by the month and then build
so mine for example

US - Un Sung Korea

I picked up a used AX EABC MAH GC, and can't find much on that particular model, which I assume was a Guitar Center only bass. It has different features than most EABCs. Anyone have one?

I’ll have to check my catalogs but I don’t think this was a GC only model though I could be wrong.

More later

You'll notice that the 2001 and 2003 catalog both indicate that all the Edge 6 basses have a 2 1/16" nut while the 2005 catalog indicates a 2" nut. Typo?
Maybe the earlier 2001 and 2003 models have slightly wider string spacing?

Bravo I say! Bravo to you!

I only know of one other Dean GC exclusive bass and that is the Dean Zone II Bass

Please post your pix here too!

And welcome to Dean Club!!! if you like. :)

I've seen a few of these on GC used and it didn't register. I thought it was either the Performer DAO or the Exotica Zebra Wood. Now I think I have G.A.S. :woot:

Based on the S/N in the pics you posted elsewhere it is a 2019 model.
