Dean Club!!!

Right, mine was taken a few days after posting. In great shape too, just at that time I had eleven basses. Think I am down to nine. I could get by with one. But then I would miss the variations.
I have posted the 12, 8 and the ep5 with no calls on them.
More and more I am getting the feel of my twelve string and likeing to pick it up before the eight. For me though the favorites are the rhapsody five and razor five.
Keep in mind we have this support group:
Bass Hoarding Personality Disorder (BHPD) - You are not alone.
This group supports you into buying more basses! :smug:
As a full fledged member you have my unwavering support to buy more Dean basses. :woot:

Yes the red one on the left is a beauty. When I did the neck swap it was because I had figured out the that special sound I was getting must have had something to do with the body itself. So that further led me down the particular path I took. But it was not until reading comments here about folks who were either dissatisfied or exchanging their pick-ups for a better sound that I remembered what the previous owner had said about it. He said he hated to let it go because he had tweaked the electronics in it. Said it was one of his favorites. Now I get it why it, to me as well, has a sound I wasn’t getting with my other basses.
And I am at a loss as to what was tweaked. Makes me feel like removing the back on both of those and comparing them.

Yeah, a picture comparison of what’s inside would be great if you get a chance ;)

Ok, don’t hold your breath though...
I’ll get around to it someday.
Just finished some truss rod and string height adgustments on the fretless Q4 rhapsody. (for now) still not low enough action. It was all set up at skips music.
(long ago) My recently gained knowledge how to set them up tells me i’m good at the nut, the releif... but the one piece saddle wont go any lower.
I am going to have to shim the neck. I’ve seen stips of veneer used for that.
(is there anything else for that, that I may already gave?)
I have not played a lot on the fretless. I think it should be much lower. I think I need to look at other’s set-ups. Maybe have it looked at. Make sure I am going the right way. I just think the bridge is twice as high as it needs to be. And since it cant go any lower at the bridge....

I’ve read here people using business cards for shims

From the looks of things, that may be as thick as I may need. The guy dave, of “daves world of fun stuff” on youtube uses veneer which he states is .020

I have whatched him as well as others, set up at least 50 different basses. Some problematic.

From what I’ve read, a fretless is set up pretty much like a fretted bass. But action can be lower. I certainly want to try that but need to get some more adjustment out of that bridge to get it done. One thing I didn’t get to yet, which will make a difference, is to check and see if I will have adjustment range on the pick ups too.

Stewmac sells wood shims that are a half a degree and and a full degree. They are ten bucks so really expensive but they do a great job for shimming a bass that has a bridge that's wrong.

Is stewmac an inmate here or an on line source of some kind. Regardless, I am looking for something appropiate to use that might be handy or something that I can just run down and get. Today is a wasted day, so tomorrow. Looked on line this morning at son/father guitars cause I was going that direction anyway. Permanently closed. Dang! I bet if I run down to skips I can pick up shims. The repair window is right in there inside the store.
Anything else I may have on hand? Anyone? A credit card is awfull thick!
But look at my strings! Bridge is low as it goes.

StewMac is a supplier of all kinds of guitar and bass parts, tools, etc.
The shims in question are full pocket sized and come as a tapered wood shim that can be trimmed to fit perfectly with a pair of scissors.
The .5 degree option is usually enough but the 1 degree shim will definitely be enough.
Here is your link, or you could have just Googled StewMac and it would have popped right up and answered your question.
Google is your friend.
