Dean, in particular, seems to be milking the names of dead guys lately... see also: Dimebag Darrell. True, Dime played a Dean guitar but he didn't endorse their latest line nor did he endorse the supremely crappy series of signature amps. I don't know who's managing John's name but I think this is weak.

Within the last two years, every single Dean bass I have played right out of the factory is set up to perfection. I am blown away with their QC. Even on their cheap models, I have played some that play smoother than my Rickenbacker. It is very cool!

Yes, it's probably an Explorer body and Dean is known for that style and John probably had a Dean at some point or another because he owned ten of everything under the sun but Dean certainly isn't the absolute first thing they think of when they think of John Entwistle. It seems like a strange choice for a sig model.

I handled one, today. It was the basic hybrid model, in sunburst, and it felt great, in my hands. True to my suspicion, earlier in this thread, it's a take on the Fenderbird. I did not plug it in, as I was not in the mood for anything loud, but the sound is the least of my worries, when EMG's are involved with active 3-band tone controls. The J-contoured neck felt like buttah. If I had a gig in a Who tribute band, I could rock one of these, easily.

Since we're talking, there is a mid-range priced Spyder for 2012 too...

It's a black version with Silver webs. It looks kinda stupid to me, couldn't they have picked other color schemes? It's like the Entwistle goth bass...

I think I actually like the Hybrid better (especially in the Brazilia sunburst). I'll stick with my Ibanez Destroyer for an Explorer-style bass. Not interested.

Yesterday I traded for the Hybrid in trans brazilia version. I am very impressed with the quality of the fit and finish. The satin finish on the neck is simply a fantasic addition to a very comfortable neck profile. It sits well in my hand and plays easily. Best of all this bass balances nicely on a strap as compared to the Epi t-bird I have that is a nose diver.

Overall, glad I made the trade, definately came out on the better end on this one.
