The Dean Edge Q6 is decentley priced and is good, it has EMGs, and it costs 546 dollars in music123.com.

I'm a big fan of Dean personally, as many here (and a search) can attest, but it's unfair to say that the Dean has "EMGs". They are EMG-HZ. Same first three letters, very different pickups.

FWIW I like the sound of EMG-HZs more than full-on EMGs.

I just picked up a Peavey Fury 6 from musicians friend for $199!! I was impressed with the quality. I have a Smith, Tobias and Modulus 6 and it is impressive for the price. IMHO the Smith is one of the best built basses you can own. Try the fury...

WOW! And I thought seeing it brand new in a store for $375 back in early 2004 was hot. That bass looked, played, and sounded like basses multiple times the price to me.

How heavy is the Peavey Fury 6? I've been wanting to try a six string, but weight is a big issue with me. I have a nice old Daion four string that got retired a long time ago because the weight caused my shoulder to start hurting within a matter of minutes. I mainly play a five string Steinberger XZ now, which I can play for long periods with no problem.

Hey guys,

I was just sitting around here, and I was thinking that I would like to go up to playing a 6-string bass, as the extended range sounds like it would be quite the treat to work with.

Anyways, I was just wondering if you guys could think of some resonably priced 6-string basses, because i don't feel like getting a crazy custom bass or anything like that, but I just want one that is good and is a good starting point for me with 6-string basses, but will still last me for a while.

The Ibanez BTB's are pretty good buys. I friend of mine is selling his immaculate Trans-Black BTB406Q with a gig bag for a decent price. The bass and the bag appear new. If you are interested, send a PM to me and I'll let him know, get you hooked-up.

+1: only substitute "T. B. Player" for joker. Visited guitar center last week and thought I'd give a pretty nice looking Ibanez another try - 3 piece neck had a bad seam right where my thumb would go. Annoyed the hell out of me. $500 - Brice 6 string neck thru; $700 - Schecter Stiletto 6 (if you can deal with the "Honey Orange" finish. The Yamahas are nice if you like a bolt on neck.

Played a "Tune" knock-off 6 at Sam Ash. Wow. If I didn't have a closet full of bases already, I'd have walked out with it. Great tone, super thin (front to back) neck, nice woods.

FYI,

there's a mahogany body Ken Smith BSR-6M bolt on @ the Plymouth Meeting Guitar Center. price isnt too bad at all for a REALLY quality instrument.

Not possible! We never made a Body in Mahogany. The Ms are Maple, Walnut, Avodire, Lacewood or Swamp Ash. We Do use Mahogany as a Core wood on some of our other models though..

Bud Lecompte gets my vote! I just picked up my VB5 fretless and it is absolutely beautiful. While I was there I got a chance to see the some of the many basses that Bud is building right now. One that caught my eye was the VBX6 that he just finished. WOW!!!!!!! Check him out. He is resonably priced and great to work with. Lots of options and designs.

It's not that heavy. Not steinberger light. Overall it is very nice for the price. The maple top is very nice and the neck feels good also. The parts seem decent for the price. If this bass didn't have a name on it and and didn't say made it Korea you would easily pay $1500 and feel you got a bargain! And it included an SKB style case also

Brice Basses Are VERY reasonably proced, and I have heard nothing but glowing reviews about them. Part of the reason that they are so cheap is because they sell direct.

I had a Brice 6er and I liked it better then nany other 6er I played. I would have kept it to except I learned 6 isnt for me. My Vote would go for a Brice. I traded mine in at guitar center for more then I payed for it.
