DemonFX Pedals - Any good?

I have more than done my part to support the original builders in my time and largely still do... That said, if I choose to save a few bucks on a clone for some secondary item that will get spot use at best, well that's gonna happen and I am not going to lose any sleep over it.

There will always be something "better". I rely on these forums to tell me all about them.. I don't have time to personally research them all

Just took delivery of a Demonfx mini chorus. A clone of the Analogman.

I gotta say it's pretty great. Even the mix knob works like the analogman where it's never really all dry, but the chorus mixes in from 25-75%. Real MN3007 chip socketed. $53 bucks shipped.

I like the depth switch at bottom the best, but it sounds great flipped up too. Middle position is kind of weak for bass.

I'll never understand paying Analogman prices for a mini chorus when these are all readily available.

I'm not knocking on you, but since you asked, some of us simply prefer supporting small/boutique builders. My entire pedalboard is boutique only pedals and I like it like that, it brings me joy. :)

Analogman prices do get pretty crazy, especially if you're in EU in which case the shipping costs are insane + import fees. Not so great. Much better if you're in USA though, I'd go for it then.

My recommendation is Drunk Beaver Jellyfish (especially for those in EU) - top quality builder and the Jellyfish chorus (also MN3007) has the same functions as Analogman Mini, except the mix knob in this case is a volume knob for the wet signal (I prefer it like that), and you get an extra control for the wet signal tone (LPF). Top jacks. I love mine.

Cheaper than Analogman, but not $53 cheap obviously.

PS. Just saw that DemonFX have cloned Turbo Tuner ST-200. As a huge fan of Sonic Research, this made me cringe a bit, but it is what it is.

It's odd that a few of their pedals don't copy the name and trade dress of the originals:

It's been a few years since these came out, has anyone had any reliability issues with them yet?

I think I'll get the D7K ultra. I don't have much use for the distortion side, but the 2 band mid control seems to be what I don't like about my old BDDI and the price is too good.

I just got a Pastfx New Division and compared it to my DemonFx Mini Chorus. I hate to say it, but the DemonFX is bassier and quieter. Also $150 cheaper. Don't get me wrong, the New Division is great. But I am shocked at the comparison to a cheapo pedal.
How do the tones compare? I have no dog in this race, as I'm not looking for a chorus and am completely satisfied with my old DOD Deep Freeze, but to many, that would be the deciding factor.

They are surprisingly similar. I know they both clone the same original pedal (EH Clone), so I'm not surprised. But I was very surprised that the $50 pedal slightly edges out the 200 dollar one in terms of overall tone. The DemonFX just sounds a little "tighter" in the mix if that makes sense.

Volume drop/boost perception? I usually wish that my modulation pedals had a volume control...

Just got my alpha omicron. Pretty much indistiguishable from the Darkglass. Very impressed.

I have this one too and l like it a lot. I also use the Demonfx version of the OE Cali 76 compact bass. I feel like at some point I’ll buy the original Cali76 because the Demon “Call76” sounds great but I’d say it’s missing maybe like a tiny bit of the original’s magic. Like 4%. I am not tempted to replace the Aplha Omicron at all though.

This doesn't actually seem to be available anywhere yet, as far as I can tell. I'm curious how it will be priced, since the ST-200 isn't very expensive to begin with.

I saw it for $30 on Aliexpress

I'm thinking of selling my SCR DI to buy the Tone Mallet and a Cali76. I fully support every Chinese ripoff available. 🤤

It’s “Call76” :p It’s totally worth it.

My DemonFx Call76 died today. Connected to a truetone cs6 power supply, it randomly started making horrible noise mid song. I changed the power supply and connections but the electrical noise it emits is still there. Looks fine inside, no burning smell. I never used 18v only 9v, I guessed the label on the front referring to 18v was likely wrong.

I have used it at rehearsals 1x fortnight for about 6 months, so about 30-40hrs of use in total before fail.

I won't be replacing it like for like, I feel like I've had my "you get what you pay" lesson.

I'm not devastated, having it has awakened my compressor passion. I'm going down that rabbit hole willingly now!

Just sharing this here to contribute to the knowledge base.

Enjoy the compressor hunt! You never know what will happen to a specific pedal. I've had some pedals by well-respected brands just randomly stop working for all sorts of (usually simple-to-fix) reasons. But your experience is often why I try some cheap/affordable clones - as a way to test what I may or may not like. If I like it, I usually go down the rabbit hole to find my favorite version of that tone. Sometimes, the cheap clone is better than many boutique versions, like how I prefer the Arion Metal Master over many more expensive HM-2 clones.

My favorite compressor is the old DOD Milkbox. I really wish somebody would clone that, or that I could build pedals myself. I know there's a schematic and PCB available. And now that I just looked, of course components are no longer available for it...
