DFW get-together anyone??

I really enjoyed listening and watching you play! I look forward to having that pleasure again. As for the Skjold, shes already gone to a new home. That kind of quality doesn't last long. She now resides with Freakbass.

Even as a newbie, I think it's very important for bass players (as well as any group of players) to get together and learn from one another. This also provides the sense of 'togetherness' as Embellisher put so very well.

So, as I've said before, I'm up for GTGs in the DFW area.....That's if you guys don't mind a beginner tagging along. I am willing to learn all that ya'll have to teach.
I'm in Dallas, close to Balch Springs, so Waxahachie, Carrollton...both are close. The ranch in Waxahachie sounds great (I've lived there, very quiet) and would be a primo place for such things....BUT I agree...Please don't scare the sheep! lol! :eek:

From my former experience in having communities/networks, it's best to try and get together about once every 2 months at least, and for the out of towners, one specificed about 1 month in advance so that travel/work/family plans can be arranged. ;) Whether or not this method will work with this sort of thing, I'm not sure, but it's worth a shot I think. Organization is key in any aspect of a GTG.

Anyone let me know if they would like help arranging any such GTGs (via email or private message preferrablly)!!! Bringing those of us together who are straggling/struggling, being lazy, or just starting out is the only way to keep people informed and one their toes--as well as always learning more! :hyper:

Yes, it is the SKB model. The body of the bass is Spanish Cedar, the neck is maple, and the fingerboard is spalted purpleheart sapwood. As I understand it, the spalted purpleheart sapwood is different from spalted purpleheart---it definitely looks different. I honestly don't know how much it weights, but I have serious shoulder problems and its never bothered me one bit. It seems rather light for a 6 string to me.

Hehehehe, Im glad I like my ONE bass a ton....well that and I cant afford another that could match it I dont think hehe. My next idea for one is a Dingwall Prima 6 Fretless, maybe a Katalox or Spalted Purpleheart Board, dunno about top wood yet. I really dig the heartwood/sapwood combos. My only concern is Id hate to put lines on a board that pretty, but playing a multi-scaled fretless might be a little tricky without em. Oh well, I got at least a few years before that GAS could be afforded hehe.

bah, look at it this way, by then, Ill be so used to playing on the multiscale that muscle memory alone will already be close to the right places. One of the reasons I went with the Dingwall so early on in my playing, figured best to get used to it now hehe.

I honestly dont think it will be much harder to play, anything can be mastered with practice, and Ive long been sold on the multi-scaled benefits :)

Juneau freakbass-
maybe if i can make it for the next DFW get-together I'll be able to bring my Dingwall collection which includes a Fretless Dingwall 5. The fretless just required lots of practice and importantly a great ear. The notes aren't exactly where you'd expect them to be (esp if you play alot of horizontal stuff), but there only a 1/2 fingers width away (in some places). Practice sir
Tubass had a chance to play both Dingwalls when he visited me Xmas of 2002. i think he actual lliked the fretless better than my fretted

That would be sweet, Im itching to try a fretless one, but alas, no local deallers hehe (Im hoping to change that with a talk to Larry Morgan Music). May I ask, is your fretless lined? Only pics I could find were lined ones and wanna make sure Im not off my rocker for not wanting them hehe.

This is directed at bovinehost, but anybody can answer. Are there any Thomastik-Infeld dealers in the DFW area. I know I can order them online, but I am in more of an instant gratification type of mindset right now. I need some TI Flats, and I need them yesterday.
