Different woods and the effects it has on tone?

There is a terrific article in the always excellent latest version of Tom Bowlus' Bass Gear Magazine. It's Bass Gear Magazine 18, the article is page 96 and it's called Demystifying varnishes. It's written by Arnold Schnitzer. Naysayer will say the article applies to uprights but when it comes to wood, it applies across all instruments.

tone woods only effect tone outside of the vacuum created by talkbass. On here the only thing that adds to your tone are, Fender decals, tort and flat wounds.

Well duh, sort of, if you put flats on a bass it will never matter what the bass is made of, they will all sound the same...

Actually, another member, who had posted on your prior thread, posted a link to it above. I was simply trying to give you some insight as to why no one is giving you the definitive answer you crave.

In short:

1. There is no definitive answer to your question. It is the most hotly contested topic on TB
2. You've asked the question just a few months ago and received #1 as an answer.
3. By posting that Fender video, you already seem to have an answer in your mind. In that case, keeping #1 in mind, it would seem fruitless to ask this question twice.

If tone wood didn't matter, we'd all be in possession of plastic mold basses. The cost to mill and finish a piece of wood, is far higher than it is to pour pre-dyed plastic into a mold, that already has the cutouts in place.

Most of the posts in this thread don't specify whether they are referring to body or neck wood. Without making that distinction, the whole thread is completely meaningless.
