Hey, Great thread/Club!
I've been swapping the same beat-up p/j set into and out of various basses for several years now. I love the value in Dimarzio's. The adjustable pole pieces have been more valuable to me more times than I can say. Wish all pups came like that.
Right now the P pup is in a new SX precision (LaBella DTB flats). It is cut-through city!
I'm not 100% satisfied with the tone yet. Maybe I'll get used to it. Maybe I'll switch the pup. Any suggestions?

'06 Special run Standard Jazz FMT in Tobacco Burst - Dropped in the Model J's after about a week. I also switched to Vol/Blend/Tone controls.

Been using the Model P for years. I'm getting ready to load one in a Hondo "professional" P copy I found in the trash.Have a set of DiMarzio Ultra's on a SX & a Japan Fender jazz.
I've messed with Seymour Duncan,EMG,Evans,Fender,ESP,Alembic(P bass),Smith(P bass)& GFS("Hot" P bass.Massive low end but highs have to be boosted a LOT!) but I like DiMarzio's the best.
They always seem to have (to my ear) A tight bottom & sweet highs.I've stuck my old (1978) creme colored Model P in at least seven P's & P copies over the years. I've got two newer black ones,too.
Maybe they suit my playing style,but they work for me!

I have an Ultra Jazz in the bridge of my Squier P-Bass Special and I love it. I am looking at getting the DiMarzio Split-P pickup to go with the Ultra Jazz. Does anybody have experience with that combo?

Man I love that Bass ! You see artisan carved EB0's EB3's from time to time, that is one of the nicest ones I have seen. When they pop up on ebay I bid but i have yet to win one. Very cool bass !
Installed the Model P in this plywood Danelectro, and it now holds its own with any MIA Fender P:

Dimarzios don't get no respect in this fancy new world -- but we know they serve up some fine sounds.

I had a 126 set put in a Rogue P/J FL. (pearl black, of course) last year. It will rival Wicks, i am tellin' you!!!! Mwah all over the place. Vib for days! Thunder! So for $220 i have Monster!
I had a model J set put in and SX J (quilted top- aka "McQuilty"- only named bass out of 7 - except for GL of course). The bass is nasty with the bridge pup turned down slightly.
...i have, as of tonight, a fretted SX P/J, and another Model J 126 set is going in this after next week.
I put a set of Ultra Jazz in a Squier VMJ -- (i am not thrilled with that at the moment-- getting it back sunday after having it set up again)....a less aggressive bass when i just be mellower and also wanna slap & pop - (Squier has an axe that begs to be slapped on.)

I've changed a J for a Di Marzio Model G humbucker with a push/pull single/double pot in my Rok Axe and added a pickup cover to it.
I'm happy with the sound it brings, it gets closer to the double bass sound of my Hofner Cavern humbuckers, added depth and bass tone, more briliance

Here's my draft plan for a cheap route to a deep, thumpy macca sound. I hate "violin" basses, the way they look and the way they feel.
If Rondo offered a "club" clone, I'd consider it.
They don't, so I'm thinking about getting a short scale SX (Essex) Jag (candy apple red) look-alike and replacing the pair of j pups for something else. I love the sound and reliability of my every set of Dimarzion p/j's that I've bought.
Here's my question: Does Dimarzio offer some humbuckers that will tilt the sound the way I want?
I know that my approach is not what everyone would choose, but I like the retro look for certain live applications, and it would be sweet if I could capture the sound that I want.

I'm in! I just bought a Fender MIA Jazz with a pair of Model J's in it. I'm a huge fan of the bridge pickup, but not so much of the neck. I'm using the Audere pre in this baby, and the bridge pickup sound brilliant, but the neck is a little hollow sounding, so I'm actually putting a Model P in there instead. I think that'll beef it up a good bit, and this bass will be a rock MONSTER. Pics as soon as the new pickup arrives!
I put a couple of model Js into an SX. I set it up with a blend pot, and push-pull pots on the vol and tone controls for the "dual sound" options. They're great pickups. My favorite settings are both flat out--series; bridge only--series; and neck--parallel, bridge--series. Great pickups and versatile.
I'm curious about the Model Gs, and X2N-Bs... What are those? They *look* like DP120s or DP145s... But looks can be deceiving. Are they discontinued models?

The music shop salesman that sold me a DiMarzio G humbucker told me a couple of things about it. It was designed as a general replacement
pickup for Gibson/Epiphone, Rickenbacker & other type of basses with a narrow bridge, but it deals with broader bridges like Fender too.
It's got adjustable polepieces. It's designed to be a versatile replacement, so you can put it at neck, middle or bridge position.
The sound is full, deep (good low) and crispy/clear if you turn up the tone, pretty heavy. It gets the body tone.
I guess they're discontinued because they're not mentioned on DiMarzio's
website.

The thing with hollowbody basses is that they have a different balance in the body/neck. It seems that learning to play on one is the best cure for
an aversion with it.

The easiest way to get the thumpy sound is to use Rotosound Nylon Wound strings, like McCartney did. A pair of Model Js in series mode would help, though.
