Dimarzio pickup club

My favorite beater, an SX P-ho with a wood pickguard (you can see some of the clamps etc. I made it with in the background), and a delightfully chunky DM2 in there. I can't even begin to tell you how many A-list players have tried to buy this thing off my lap. Got them NOS for $25 SHIPPED from a former dudepitter. Man, I miss that place. It was the best forum on earth to find/trade nifty stuff like this. Too bad Dude decided to be a crackhead and a thief and flushed the whole mess down the crapper.

But I digress....

Sorry for the lousy phone pic, maybe I'll try to get a better one. The wood guard comes out poop brown, but in person it is actually a much more golden color, like the neck.

I believe I'm going to put a DiMarzio P in between the X2N and the empty route. Maybe. Or partially in the empty route? Only the shadow knows.... :hides:

I've got other basses with DiMarzios--a Hamer Blitz with DiMarzio designed P/Js, an Ibanez Destroyer with a P in it. I recently got an X2N-7...not sure what that's going to go into, but I plan on modding a bass with dual Ps and another with a Split P and X2N-7.

The X2N is a fantastic pickup. If you make use of the series/coil cut/parallel switching capabilities, it encapsulates everything I love about DiMarzios. Full on, rich sound in series, your single coil sound with coil tap, and a clankier sound with parallel. Truly wonderful, and really HOT!! It can be very smooth (but still frightfully loud) with the volume turned down, but as it reaches towards 10, it gets really bright. A full spectrum of sound...mmh it's wonderful. And very, very METAL!

I have a Peavey Millenium BXP 4, which now wears TI jazz flats. I like the DiMarzio's in my Fender jazzes so much, I plan to put DiMarzio's in my Peavey. I just haven't decided between the Model J's, and ultrajazzes yet. Depends on what will work best with the flatwound strings.

I just got a 92'ish MIJ Ibanez SR950 P/J passive bass, it came with a Model-1 P and Ultra Jazz Bridge pup. I replaced the Ultra Jazz and installed a Model-1 Bridge pup to give the bass the right balanced output with both pups on. I play in a funk band and so far this bass is sounding very funky with nice highs and punchy lows with a bit of dirt in the tone! I would say, however, these pups seem to have a real "Rock" roots to them, but there working for now and I'm still fiddling around with EQin' and getting used to them... anyone else using these pups for funk/R&B?

I have Dimarzio Model J in two of my basses, the Hagström and the home assembled Jazz Bass. Like the sound very much. But I´ve noticed that there´s more output and treble in the ones in the Hagström bass. The pickups are from 1980 so they might have change the design a bit since then.

If that bass were right-handed, I'd be sneaking over there to "borrow" it for a few years or so... :) pretty much my favorite specs: black on black with maple board, Dimarzio pups, BA bridge, passive

Why, thanks ya'll, I appreciate all the compliments!

This bass was my first true left handed instrument and is the one against whom all others are judged. This bass was stolen from me in 1983. A year later I had moved half way across the country and I walked into a local music store and it was hanging on the rack! I still had the copies of the police report and a letter that had been written to Guitar Player magazine giving her description and serial number. Two days later, after the police a finished processing her, she was back with me again. She is semi-retired now. I only take her to rehearsals and the studio as I will not risk theft or damage from live gigs (though I'm often terribly tempted!). She also wears a set of Schaller tuners

I recently installed some Model Ps in a Mexican P-Bass (with the series/parallel switch) and am very happy with them. So much so, that I may be yanking the Duncan QPs outta my HW1 P and replacing those with Model Ps as well.
