Anyone who owns an NG2 ever consider buying a regular Combustion as well? I'm considering picking up a 4 string Combustion to complement my 5 string NG2.
Ive had both. They are quite different IMO. A pao ferro fretboard would help distinguish the 2 apart. For solo type playing I appreciated the combustion more. I found the sound more “clean and juicy” lol.
I think in a band setting the NG does a better job to cut through.
Now with the 3x though it may double down more so.
I like to utilize the neck pup when playing by myself. Mine is being converted to 3x asap I hope and I’ll be able to speak more on this soon enough.

Funnily enough those settings are exactly what I'd be doing. I'd be using the NG2 in a band setting and the Combustion for college work which involves a lot of soloing and also for teaching in future. Even more tempted now!
And that wasn’t to discount the NGs abilities to act independently but just to state where I believe the strong points lie. Perhaps the NG3 in passive will be ever so closer to the combustion.... tough to say.
I really did enjoy the rosewood fretboard for the soloing sound my combustion had though which I don’t believe is an NG option.
That said.... you should buy another Dingwall anyways!! Lol.

Looks great. Will you be trying out the reverse P setup? I’ve never even played my SP(V)5 with a regular P setup, it’s been in reverse mode ever since I bought it.

I'd like to order a tort pickguard for my SP5. Are there any other options than ordering directly from Dingwall? I've not been able to find anything online.
I don't have any plans to put it as a reverse P.
I put round wounds on it last night and I am still getting used to the sound. I have not A/B'd it directly with my SJ5 (P/J) yet, but my first impressions are that it sounds similar but different (which is what I was expecting). The treble strings sound thinner (D, G) than the SJ5 and the E-string stands out a bit more relative to the other strings. I may have to play with the pickup heights a little.
I am not sure I like the "tone fusion" tone control either. I like the idea of the mid scoop, but in reality I don't know that it will be that useful for me. I notice an immediate and pronounced effect when turning it off of the centre detent. I think I would prefer a more standard tone control, but with a linear control. The standard tone controls seem to have most of the effect in the last quarter turn. Anyone have any suggestions on a tone control model and source?
I hope it all worked out as best as possible. I hate seeing a good fellow posting gear for less then good reason.

Has anyone here swapped out a DG tone capsule for a regular preamp? I’m finding its inherent tone a bit dull.
