I’ll call it “1.5” bands...

For the last couple years, I’ve been playing in a covers band, but one of the members was having some “life complexity” and I stopped hearing from them...

So I started auditioning, and found an alt-country/blues/soul band; we’re called Stone Soup and the Broken Teeth.



I’ve been gigging with them since March.

Then the cover band called, and said “we have a gig scheduled...” so I figured; why not...

...Still hittin' it with the NG3, and the FOH chatter is overwhelmingly positive.

My newest thing is to have my clean envelope set to be perfect when the bass is in 'passive' mode and then switch in and out as needed. These days I'm also running it into a Cali76CB, but leaving the DGTC eq nearly flat except for boosting the lows a bit. Still really impressed with this bass, though I may take the backup-backup out for one of this run's shows.

This is not the Bird you are looking for, if that is your sound. It is more of a passive MM Bridge to P sorta range (if I had to compare it to other things I’ve heard).

Dang...that’s right down my alley; I wired my Z2 to Z3 conversion as a P+MM. It has a P-Tone neck PU and the two original (Bartolini) pickups work together as a MM bridge PU

Joined a local metal band a few months ago after over a decade of not actively playing bass - it's been a learning experience for sure! Great group of guys, we all have "regular" jobs and other family/life priorities so this is just a fun project that we're not going to try to push too far.

Even the solo bridge is a beefy tone. If you have bridge PU tendencies, with a bit more low end, and like passive basses, the Bird is a good way yo fly.

I'm a day-job guy and hobby player, mostly. I play bass as a form of rehab for my left-side paralysis, after a pretty nasty bike accident. I mostly play simplified cover tunes as a way to keep pushing myself to improve dexterity. I do still write and occasionally record industrial/electronic/metal songs with a friend.

Musically, I've become more of a synth guy. Not necessarily keyboard, but programming, sequencing, and I recently started exploring semi modular stuff. Even with my physical limitations, this direction has opened up huge possibilities for me. My main music project is an ambient/drone soundscape thing. My collaborator and I host events with guided breathwork and meditation, which she leads, while I make bubbling, brooding echo-drenched audio backrops. I've been working on ways to sneak my bass playing into our sound, and I've been getting closer. My Spector fretless seems to be a more natural fit with our sound, but I'm not a confident fretless player. My D Bird tests have had favorable results, so I'm moving forward with that integration.

The AB HS. There’s a drop in volume from passive to active which is also weird. In passive mode the sound is more growling and aggressive.

To be clear it’s not an awful sound, but it does seem to take the edge off as far as my ears are concerned.

I’m comparing it to my ABI which has the Glock (what I called regular). Going from passive to active on that one there is no change in volume, very little change in tone, just the ability to EQ things a bit.

Any consideration of turning it 18v. I believe most DGTC are powered that way in dingwalls. Or it could have something to do with whoever did the conversion. Too bad it didn’t come with the original glock as a back up.

You probably mentioned it but what pick ups are in it?
