I had been between gigs for about 15 months. Over that time, I took lessons with Rufus Philpot (who is an awesome player, musician and teacher BTW) until work just got me overwhemed, and also spent a good deal of time practicing the "singing while playing" thing. I just recently started jamming with some guys who are pretty good players and have been looking for a bass player/singer for some time. So far so good. It was great to get back into jamming with others, and I was sooooo damn pleased with my tone. My AB1s into my Monique700 into my Genzler BA12-3 stack just KILL in this band. We are mainly doing 90's to present covers ala Collective Soul, STP, Better than Era, Wallflowers, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters etc., plus some Black Keys and Justin Timberlake. It's hard to squeeze it in with work, buut I'm hoping I can make it work.

That’s interesting. I think that is the first time I’ve ever heard it described as dull.

Re: DG Tone Capsule - This is a new one on me, also. I usually back off the 80hz a tad, leave the other two tone controls centered, and always like what I hear.

Most recently I was in a thrash type metal band for 12 yrs or so in which my guitarist was my primary music teacher. Ie. Keep up or else!!! Lol. Jk. Great great friend he is. I resigned from it early this year as I need to do other things and I think I held myself back by commiting to them and held them back by not fully commiting at the same time.

I have now revived a project I was in about 10 yrs ago that I do a bunch of the writing in with the original members.
It’s kinda tough to describe but I would say it is influence by rush, primus, tool, maybe a Shriners circus and everything else.

Soo. There’s my story. On a side note I was more into the party then the playing probably up until about 6 years ago.
Dingwall was a spark that fueled my passion to do more and become better and now I have a hard time going a moment not wishing I was playing one.

Reggae-Soul (but it's more complicated than that). All original, mostly northeast but some mid-west down the coast and soon out west, I guess. Also just scored a pickup gig to do a set or two in St. Lucia for their annual island roots festival, but generally one gig is full time enough for me (last year we hit 100 shows). This year we're on track for about 130~ gigs or so.

...I also work full-time in academic administration for a 'day job'. But, over all this listing is about average, we generally hit NY, VT, PA, ME, NY, MA down into NC/VA, occasionally OH.

I'm a hard rock and metal player at heart...

Dude! We might be twins, separated at birth...

After a couple decades playing heavy stuff:

My covers band is a power trio playing Zeppelin, Sabbath, STP, Tool, etc.

The originals project sounds a bit like the Blues Brothers Band...with “blue state country” influences.

Two cover bands.

One plays small-sh bars and has a really wide range from disco to rock to pop. More rock than the others, but nothing is forbidden (although we have no rap or country).

The other is a dance band with funk, R&B, disco and pop music. That band is geared more as an event band.

I just got my NG2 fiver specifically for praise/worship—worked out great last weekend. Probably use it in current rock originals and latin projects sometimes too.
Don’t let anyone tell you the NG2 is a one trick pony.

Over the last 3-4 years I've played in a blues band, psychedelic rock, and for the last three years a soul/funk band. I've quit the other bands to focus on the soul/funk band because we are starting to attract a large following and the gigs keep coming. I'm playing 1-2 gigs a weekend. We have a 30-year-old female vocalist who started singing in church at a young age and is off the hook good. Give me a powerhouse vocalist with stage presence, and I will fully commit my time and energy. I'm only playing long scale models now (Z3, AB II 6, and my NG2.)

Me, too. Two ABI fivers. They just work for me. If I could afford a Z right now, I would get one. But other than that, or maybe an ABII, I'm bass DASless.

A "time fusion" control would be quite interesting. Maybe it could help 'lock in' with inconsistent drummers?

It allows you a 10 second rewind, so you can correct your mistakes.

Any consideration of turning it 18v. I believe most DGTC are powered that way in dingwalls. Or it could have something to do with whoever did the conversion. Too bad it didn’t come with the original glock as a back up.

You probably mentioned it but what pick ups are in it?

Triple FD-3 pickups. 18V may be a consideration, or I might just suck it up and forget about it. The original Glock is in the original owner’s other bass and apparently spacers would be needed to go back as the tone capsule has larger diameter shafts.

This is definitely a very small issue with an otherwise lovely instrument.

I’m in a Tribute Act called “Foreigners Journey” yup you guessed it, we play both Foreigner and Journey songs. I’m also in a Foreigner only tribute called “Cold As Ice” both bands keep me pretty busy. CAI stays local where as FJ travels. My NG2 does a great job with both projects!

Ok, I’m not playing Dingwalls, yet, but since I’m playing in the same band that I was playing in the last time I had Dingwalls, and I will be in this band for the foreseeable future, I play in a “modern rock” cover band. Pretty much everything from Billy Idol and Def Leppard to FFDP and Disturbed. We’ve had a couple of weekends off since Jan 1, we’re on vacation for the next couple of weeks, then we don’t have another weekend off until sometime in November. We’ve already booked most of next year. I wish I had time to play in another band. I’d really love to have a couple of other things going on, an 80’s-90’s pop/rock band and a funk/metal original project. I may try to carve out sometime for those.

On a Dingwall note-I was thrilled to see some new ABZ pics on the website!

Anyone who owns an NG2 ever consider buying a regular Combustion as well? I'm considering picking up a 4 string Combustion to complement my 5 string NG2.

I think you will find it adds a great deal of versatility to have both. One week I like the Combustion better then the next I like the NG2 better. I think for an overall cover all genre much tonal versatility the Combustion is hard to beat. But that low mid/high mid and growl controlled NG2/3 has it's own thing going and it is also a versatile instrument. Best of both worlds with one of each.

Looks like I've managed to track down a 5-string Z3. That'll be an interesting sonic pairing with the NG2 (upcoming dbird ng3 when the upgrade kits finally arrive) since pre and pickup arrangements will be quite different.
