I take really lousy pictures, but here's some close-ups of the indigo burst.
Thanks for all the info guys! Much appreciated. She arrived today! I actually found that I really liked similar settings with the bass boosted slightly above the center detent, low mids slightly cut below the center and high mids slightly boosted above the center. These settings in both series and parallel mode sound great! An absolute beast of a bass!

Been trying out a few different string gauges on my super J 5, so far the 145 B feels the best but there is a slight snag:
So, I just received my NG-2, and I'm absolutely loving it so far. One question for the group here: my favourite strings are the Ernie Ball Cobalt Flatwounds, which I have on all my basses. I'm wondering if anybody knows of a version of these that will fit on an NG-2? Or something that sounds and plays very similarly?
Well, bugger. Had that same problem with my Warwicks, their own brand were the only tapered end string I could find.
Pretty sure Payson is the only source for flats that fit the 37" scale properly, maybe TI flats fit as well but probably not what you're after.
A tapered 140 would probably be the ideal string but I don't know of any company that makes that combination. I'll stick with the Dingwall brand on this one most likely, I have it tuned to standard so it's not a million miles away from the feel of the 37" basses (I tune those Bb) with the 135.
Kallium make a tapered .140 and you might check DAddario I think they go that high and tapered in the XL Nickel and Pro Steels
I'll keep an eye out for D'Addario tapered B's, they are hard to find in Canada for some reason.
I'm going to continue to give Kallium a wide berth, too many bad reviews to risk dealing with them (even though they seem to be great for some).

I doubt you'd run much risk of sinking your battleship over a string purchase, but sure, sure.
Yeah I feel ya in the Kallium thing. I really hope they turn that around as the make great strings !
Bassstringsonline.com or juststrings.com are my usual go to spots for string needs. I never seem to be able to find what I want in stores locally. Of course the fact I have a lot of Basses tuned down and drop tuned probably doesn’t help with that.
I have ordered several sets from Kallium. They are very lacking in customer support. Unresponsive to emails, don't answer questions, no update on string shipments, don't answer the phone, but the strings always show up and the orders have always been correct. I have ordered from them about 6 times and might again the future.
I usually try several different types of strings on each new bass that I have until I settle on what I think works best for me on that bass. Right now, I am liking my Payson Low Mass strings on my Combustion. Looks like Payson is the winner for this bass. (I have tried two flavors of Dingwall, one Kallium, and one Payson)
I am not a string loyalist and have different strings on every one of my basses.

I guess I have more D'Addario than any other, but it was more that they had the type I was looking for than rand loyalty. Except the the Gary Willis, I have on it the closest to the factory strings as I could get, they just sound better than the others that I have tried.)
Does anyone know how the Z2/Z3 basses have changed over the years? I'm looking at an older one.

THE separated pickups are 95% or more percent of the time gonna be super fatties. I really enjoy those pick ups. They are a bit “calmer” then FD3s and such.
Other then that the bridge pieces may be slightly different with a side post for the string ring to sit on.
I betcha neck and body construction is quite similar to modern ones.
