Mine have AlNico V magnets. I've been running one in my SP4 and one in my SJ/P4 for a few months. I love the tones they deliver with nickel rounds.
They are 'custom spaced', 20.5mm between the centers of the poles, hence the "DW" (Dingwall) designation.

Thanks for the info! Idk why the stock pup isn't doing it for me. I purchased this bass based on my experience with my D Bird. I love the middle and neck pickup sounds on it, and I assumed the Super P would deliver something similar, but I realize the difference in scale lengths could have something to do with it. The difference in scale length is a big factor. The Super P just won't 'feel as big'. Soloing the neck pickup (it's in the precision 'sweet spot') on my NG-2 sounds like the biggest, baddest precision on the planet. BIG difference.
Yep, it is a great sound. I had considered dropping one of those pups in there, but thought I would try a route with less modification required. Just got done playing for a couple of hours with my two week old Dingwall Combustion and first five string. Only been able to play it a few times but as I said before it plays sooo effortlessly you do not think about the wonky frets, and I thought my old Jazz Bass was fast and smooth.
Which is why I never bought another Bass for well over 15 years, nothing compared.
Was not excited about the rear strap pin being above the bridge as far as it is because my leather strap will not adjust and this will put the bass lower than the other, and it does, now I think this is a good thing.
I believe this is best for the five string and may be why some have difficulties with comfort playing on other five strings. I am not reaching higher for the B-string as it is now where the E would be on the four and so my fretting hand is not reaching up but naturally going down putting no stress on the wrist from a larger reach up.
In my opinion.
I wear a size 7 men's shoe so you know I have small hands.

Just some thoughts on how the Dingwall 37inch scale fanned frets play.
To those on the fence thinking of trying the Ibanez fanned fret to see how the fanned frets play, do not bother. I spent over thirty minutes with one as maybe an alternative before purchasing a Dingwall and it does not compare.
Why was that nut so huge? No I do not want your guy to file it down so I will not get scraped when playing on the first few frets on the low strings, it is brand new.
Again just some thoughts.

A few years ago when I went to the Melbourne guitar show I went to check out the fanned fret Ibanez to see what these funny looking basses were about. The guy on the stand handed me a Dingwall and said try this. Never got around to the Ibanez.
Also, got the HS back after swapping the tone capsule for a Glockenklang. Fixed the weird volume issue and sounds great. Methinks the tone capsule is faulty; it’d be nice if there was a way to test it.

First rehearsal with the ABHS and pedalboard (Darkglass Super Symmetry and Alpha Omega Ultra through an Aguilar Tone Hammer 350 and Epifani UL 4x10). It must've been a dream, because bass tone this good surely couldn't exist in real life! When I dropped the B to A, I was shocked by the clarity and fundamental. Used the bass in "Nolly" mode with pickups in parallel, and also in bridge+neck in series. Stunning, growling, fat and punchy bass in heaps. I can't even begin to describe the joy in finally having come full circle with gear. This is it. It simply doesn't get any better than this.

It's been an adventure, but it sure feels good to say "I'm done". I honestly can't imagine anything better than this, and I have a pretty vivid imagination.Complete gear satisfaction is more valuable than money.
You’ll never stop coveting Dingwall basses. Of that I can assure you! But it’s nice to know you have what is doing it for you in hand for sure.

Well, I hate to disagree with such an esteemed expert, but I no longer lust for gear of anykind, Dingwall completed the circle, just want to put my mojo into what I've got.
Well, then you are a better man than I!! I love my ABIs and I wouldn’t trade them for anything. But I would be a big liar if I said I didn’t GAS for an ABII and Z3. drool
