That is what the videos all are, especially looking up Combustion videos. It seems as it was made just for Metal. :bored:
I am clean only with one petal being a tuner. Also my bass has never been picked or slapped. :angel:

Unless @bebass slapped it to get it breathing before he shipped it to its new Daddy. :woot:

RE: Dingwall distortion and effects-

My combo has a tube preamp section, so I like to warm up the sound a little with that, just to the point of noticing what it's adding.

Then, I have a Darkglass B7K Ultra that I stomp for when I want the gritty edge to shine.

But major distortion? Nah.

My amp has a 2 stage compressor - I keep the low end compression very low (about a 2 or 3 out of 10) and the high end somewhat higher (6 or 7). Really gives me a punchiness on the higher frets that I like the sound of.

I need to get a chorus pedal for some light coloration, especially when the DG is off and I'm playing fretless (not a Dingwall).

Wait. People buy Dingwalls for other kinds of music besides metal? I had no idea.

I tried it out a year ago and it was AWESOME. Completely.
He would not budge a penny from the $4500 asking price.
Perhaps now that a year has gone by he will knock off five or ten bucks.
Maybe.
Then again, he may want to add interest charges for him carrying it for a year. (Actually, I have no idea how long he had already had it before I saw it last September.)
If you can strike a deal that you are happy with, I can tell you that the bass is as good as they get.

For the most part, playing "down low" - i.e. below the 12th fret, it's something I felt I had zero transition with. It was effortless. Playing runs above the 12th took just a little bit to get solid. I still occasionally have chording issues up high, but, I very, very rarely play chords that high, so I don't spend any time woodshedding it.

Looks like the luthier who I have lined up to convert the C5v4 from fretted to fretless is on board but he told me 'call me next Tuesday to discuss when you can drop it off' so it may take a bit. :( That's ok with me though as long as it goes well.

This is also a test as I have a few other projects like some quality time with the Voodoo-Prima (hopefully to check the neck-true, refret w/banjo wire and a handful of other things), and then some work on the recent Steinberger/Spirit 5.

When I was shopping for a new bass before I pulled the trigger on my ng2 I had the same complaint about most videos of dingwall basses. In my band I do use some Darkglass pedals for dirt but my clean tone is just bass, compressor and my Avalon u5 which imo is a very prestine hi fi type of clean tone that shows off the different characteristics of different basses. I really like the cosmetics of the NG basses so I continued to dig for videos without overdrive/distortion/fuzzand eventually found this one

I was a warwick guy for around 15 years so I’ve seen a ton of Andy’s videos, several of Warwick’s that I have personally owned, so I have some idea listening to his videos how I’ll sound playing the basses.

On the flip side. I do like that my ng2 sounds good with pedals. Lot of active basses don’t. That was one of my main complaints with Warwick’s and several other brands. Dig the clean tones but I just couldn’t get dirty tones I liked out of them.
