I actually picked up some really thin 2-sided scrap booking tape last night and it worked marvelously. I really love the look and I agree, it really makes the orange pop. That being said, for some reason I couldn't make myself drill holes in this thing so the tape was a nice compromise.

I like the pickguard, it adds a nice contrast to the mettalic finish.
The main question is: do you slap or play with a pick? Both will likely wear the high gloss clear coat below the G string. Above the B too if you get wild with a pick.

Both my Afterburners have a swirled spot from my right hand fingernails rubbing when I slap. It will probably buff out at this point, but eventually it'll be permanent wear and tear. I've seen basses of dedicated slappers worn down to raw wood.

I don't play with a pick and, at this point at least, don't slap much. I'm still a beginner and don't have the chops to make slapping sound right so it's basically all finger style for me. I am working on slap but it will be awhile before I attempt that when playing with the band. It's likely that this pg won't come off unless I decide to sell the bass and the new owner doesn't like it. I am really digging it.

I'm sorry, I don't want to sound like Mr. Negative or anything, but I'm afraid after a year or two the tape might leave it's mark in the finish too. It' been my experience that anything like that (included static stickers) will alter the color of the finish where you have the tape. I'm guessing some chemical interaction takes place. If the tape was in an area exposed to light, it would happen faster, but the years will pass before we know it...

That's a good point that I didn't consider. It sounds like the finish will suffer no matter how it is mounted. I like it enough to leave it on there for good but I was just trying to keep resale in mind for down the road if/when I decide to upgrade.

I'd recommend carefully removing the pickguard too and screwing it on. I can't predict how the adhesive will react with the finish. The other thing to underline is that metallic finishes are the easiest to chip so go very slowly when removing. If it looks like the tape is going to pull the paint off, leave it in place and just install the screws.

I'm really interested to know if you've been able to hear and feel the difference between 1st and 2nd generation combustions. especially the pickups. Also, if the gap between the ABZ and Cbass has gotten smaller.

For now this is the only Dingwall that I have any significant experience with so I can't really compare it to the V1 Combustion or the ABZ. FWIW, I love everything about this bass. It surpassed my expectations considering the price tag.

Haha, hey Satan. In an attempt to keep my marriage on a solid foundation, I am doing my best to not even look at pics of new Dingwalls. If money was no object I would be adding a SuperJ to the collection like yesterday. But with an 11 year old daughter, a 4 year old daughter and a new daughter that will be born sometime in the next three weeks, money is definitely an object. On top of that, my wife cannot wrap her mind around why in the world a person could possibly need more than one bass. Such is my life and I wouldn't trade for anything, but wow do I love that blue burst SuperJ.

Yes, that blue one is definately one of the nicer SuperJs, but I am still biased:bassist:

Congrats on the new family addition. She doesn't really need diapers, Does she?
You could use those $$$ on a new DW.
